Searchers find belongings of missing woman
About 10 Sheriff’s deputies and 40 volunteers from the Abbey and Jennifer Recovery Foundation are participating in the search today, Sheriff’s Department spokeswoman Heather Gierhart said.
“We’re searching the roadway — both sides of the road,” Hilkey said. “The items are limited to a short distance.”
He added: “Are other items in the area within the same distance?”
Searchers are trying to find items scattered along the highway outside of the two-mile stretch where some were discovered earlier Sunday.

    Searchers find "personal items"
A series of checks, a check register and several personal items belonging to a woman missing for more than two weeks were found this morning scattered along the median of Highway 50 several miles from Grand Junction.
Frank Birgfeld, father of missing 34-year-old Paige Birgfeld, said he didn’t know what the other items were and was with a different group of searchers when the discovery was made.
"In terms of optimism, can it be?" Birgfeld asked. "Is this is the proverbial trail of bread crumbs left by Paige? You kind of like the sound of that as a dad." His daughter has been missing since the night of June 28. Her car was found burning in a gravel parking lot of an auto parts distribution warehouse July 1 and the investigation into her disappearance has revealed much about her life — including her juggling several jobs ranging from Pampered Chef salesperson to running an independent escort service.

GRAND JUNCTION – The father of a missing woman says searchers have found some of his daughter's personal items, including a series of checks he believes could be a trail left behind on purpose.

The searchers were looking for clues in the disappearance of Paige Birgfeld, a woman who has been missing for more than two weeks.

Frank Birgfeld, Paige's father, tells MSNBC that searchers found his daughter's checkbook and a series of her checks, along Highway 50 near Lands End Road, sound of Grand Junction.

The area is about 10 miles from where her burnt-out car was found on July 1.

Searchers tell 9NEWS they also found Paige's Blockbuster card and a couple of health cards.

"It kind of spurs you on. You never know what you're going to find," one searcher said.

"It's very important," said Mesa County Sheriff Stan Hikey. "It's a piece of the puzzle. We have talked about this before. You never know which piece of the puzzle is going to cause other pieces to fall together and give you some great progress."

Wow, I don't know what to think about her things being scattered along the road. Either her dad is right and she got the chance to toss items out the window without being seen or her abductor just tossed them out as he drove along the road. It isn't looking good because of the amount of time that she has been missing though. I wonder if they know who she got the phone call from that night around 10:00 pm. They must know as they can check phone records of incoming calls can't they? Is there a way to find out who called in?

I wonder if the 2nd husband knew that Paige was seeing her 1st husband? Do both husbands have air tight alibis for that night? In her profession it could be just about anyone that abducted her but she must have went out to meet her abductor so would it have been a client? Lots of questions and no answers.

Not that she deserved this in any way, but, GOSH, she certainly was living a lifestyle that puts you at high risk for foul play. What is wrong with these people??

I think this is a case that Texas Equusearch needs to take on. That's amazing that they found some of her stuff...I hope it means she was leaving a trail for investigators to follow, and not that a perp was dumping her things.

I have followed this case in the media some, but had not heard of the articles they found on the roadway. It sounds like a good lead, however, it could be a way to throw LE off the real course.

She sounds like a type-A personality/workaholic. They don't define themselves financially, but with the challenge to excel at everything they do. The money isn't the driving force.

Could she have gotten herself into an unsavory situation? Of course, but she was a very smart woman. It doesn't sound to me as if she were meeting anyone in a business capacity. She would have dressed for it and been prepared. I tend to think her going missing had nothing to do with any of her activities related to her lifestyle or business ventures myself.

Her car being burned and left to be found is quite telling. If they wanted to leave no traces behind...they would not have parked it where they did for the FD and LE to find. They would have driven it into the water somewhere and allowed it to sink so not to be found. The person or persons responsible are taunting LE or they are leaving blatant clues to foul play for another reason.

Information From Accident Could Help In Birgfeld Case

Information surrounding a traffic accident could help authorities piece together clues in the case of a missing Grand Junction woman.

Mesa County Sheriff’s investigators want information from motorists who were diverted around an accident the evening of June 28 at 23 and G roads. Paige Birgfeld’s Ford Focus was found burned out at about 10:30 that night at 727 Road 23 near the location of the crash.

“We can’t say why we’re looking but we’re interested in the detour routes that people took,” said spokeswoman Heather Gierhart of the Mesa County Sheriff’s Department. “I think there were many detour routes. There are so many people who could have information or could have seen something.”

Gierhart said investigators aren’t interested in the accident itself, but in things people may have seen while rerouted around the accident. People with information should call Mesa County Sheriff’s investigator Peter Burg at 244-3263.

In other news, authorities haven’t found evidence of body in the Grand Valley Canal, as reported to police by a passer-by on Monday. Deputies have been checking traps at various points two miles downstream from the possible sighting in the canal between Seventh and 12th streets. Gierhart said deputies will continue to visually check the canal for about a week.

Ex-Husband Says Missing Mom, Who Moonlighted as Escort, Planned on Meeting Clients th

The first husband of missing mom Paige Birgfeld says his ex-wife visited him the night she disappeared, and that she was planning on keeping two appointments with escort-service clients before heading home, according to an exclusive interview with FOX31-TV in Denver.

Howard Beigler also said he doubted he would ever again see his former wife, who vanished three weeks ago.

Investigators are not focusing their investigation on Beigler, the station reported, though they have not cleared him or Birgfeld's second ex-husband, Rob Dixon, as suspects.

I thought I heard on Greta's show last night that the neighbors say the man is a mechanic and lives there with his wife. Seemed like your normal nice, quiet guy. The neighbors also said they don't recall seeing anyone looking like Paige in their neighborhood or at that home.

The fact that it's the 2nd search gives me goosebumps though. This is such a strange case....

The house is owned by a woman named Elaine J. Jones. Doesn't mean she lives there necessarily, just that she is on record as owning it.
I have been trying to learn why the volunteer search has been on Highway 50. Obviously it was fruitful, as they found personal belongings there, but her home is some distance from there as were all her reported activities of that day. Does anyone know why the search started there?

The very last reporter on Greta's show tonight said that Lester Jones was confirmed to them (radio station news?) as a client of Paige's.

I still have a hard time with ex-H#1 being the last one to see her alive, and he's giving all these details about that night. I hope LE is confirming them.

If their marriage broke up after 3-4 yrs (per the report on Greta's show) because he was uncomfortable with her stripping, I don't see how he's comfortable with her running an escort service while renewing their relationship. Then there's ex-H#2 that supposedly has a hot temper....
