FL - Couple Accused Of Holding Ill Woman Hostage

    http://www.news4jax.com/news/13809140/detail.html
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A Jacksonville caregiver and her boyfriend were arrested Wednesday afternoon after police said the couple held a terminally ill woman hostage in her home.

According to investigators, Melissa Simpson was hired about two months ago to take care of Brenda Broadhurst.

When Broadhurst spoke with Channel 4 Thursday afternoon her arms were scratched and bruised -- evidence of what she said was the abuse she endured during the last two months.
They slapped the tar out of me and spit in my face," Broadhurst said.
Terminally ill and recently out of a hospice, Broadhurst hired Simpson as her live-in caretaker. She said the woman she hired brought along her boyfriend, Shawn Baxley, and instead of helping, Broadhurst said they hurt her.
"They were supposed to help bathe me, help dress me, make sure I took my meds and keep the house clean," Broadhurst said.

I hope if these two "not sure what to call them" have done this before they are recognized and punished for that also.
    How awful.
    How dreadfully awful.
    IMHO

Oh, this is the LOWEST of the LOW! What a horrific thing for this poor woman to endure. I just don't understand how people can be so cruel! Makes me sick. <sigh>

I wonder if the sick woman checked this caregiver out before she hired her? In this day and age you have to do all kinds of investigating before you hire anyone to do anything. Especially someone that is going to be moving into your home and taking care of all of your needs. That poor woman.

I agree Kat; when they get out they'll most likely commit more crimes again. Anyone who can take advantaged of a handicapped person has no conscience.

We could dish out our own form of justice. I can be very vindictive on things like this, of course, that could imply to most of the cases I read in the news!!

The woman isn't merely handicapped, she's terminally ill. That's why I say five years isn't enough. Lady_Ford, I don't advocate vigilante justice, are you implying I do?
