JONESTOWN — Brenda Sies, 50, stood outside her neighbor's house in this bucolic area with breathtaking views of Lake Travis, holding a mug of coffee and shaking her head. "It's an unnerving thing to be asleep and 300 feet away from you, someone's been killed," she said.
Like her other neighbors, Sies said she was shocked by the news that police were looking for a man suspected of killing a 46-year old woman and three others in her home in the 8900 block of Hobby Lane. Travis County sheriff's department spokesman Roger Wade said that investigators suspect the same man who shot a bartender in Marble Falls on Friday night might have a connection with the Jonestown homicides
Investigators responded to the home on Hobby Lane after Jonestown police received a call from a family member requesting that officers check on loved ones who might be at the house. Wade said officials did not know precisely how the victims died, or when.
Sies said she was in her home with her grandson Sunday afternoon when a police man parked in her driveway and asked her to stay in the house while SWAT teams looked for Paul Devoe III, 43, the man now suspected of five homicides this weekend.
Travis County sheriff's officials are looking for Paul Devoe III whose most recent address has been listed as Suffolk County in New York, according to public records.
Wade also said that a white 2001 Saturn station wagon is missing from the house with the license plate Y43-ZWV. That car was registered to Paula Griffith.
Officials have not released the name of the victims. But neighbors in the area said that Griffith and her teenage daughter lived in the home that investigators had roped off with crime scene tape.
"Poor, poor Paula," said Dave McCollough, 56, a truck driver who has lived here since 1985. McCollough said that he and his wife sometimes cared for Griffith's dogs when she was out of town, but that he didn't know her well. He said she took care of her teenage daughter and worked at a landscaping company in the area.
On Friday night, Marble Falls police responded to a shooting call at 8 p.m. at O'Neills Sports Tavern on Main Street found Michael Jay Allred, 41, dead with a bullet wound to his chest. DeVoe was named a suspect in that killing.

Paul Devoe, a suspect in a quadruple slaying in Jonestown and in a fatal shooting Friday night in Marble Falls, was arrested today in Shirley, N.Y., said an official with the U.S. marshals office in Austin.
Supervisory Deputy U.S. Marshal in Austin Hector Gomez said that U.S. marshals tracked Devoe to Long Island, N.Y., where they arrested him at a residence in the hamlet of Shirley just before noon central time. "He is from there; he has associates there," Gomez said.

Gomez said he didn't immediately know how or when Devoe got to New York.
The identities of the four people found dead inside a house in the 8900 block of Hobby Lane in Jonestown have not been released, but Travis County sheriff's department spokesman Roger Wade said it was a "fairly bloody, fairly gruesome crime scene."
"All we can say is that it was definitely homicide," Wade said. He said the Travis County medical examiner's office is awaiting autopsy results to determine the causes of death.
Wade said investigators believed Devoe, 43, might have a connection to all five slayings, but would not elaborate. On Friday night, Marble Falls police responded to a shooting call at 8 p.m. at O'Neills Sports Tavern on Main Street found Michael Jay Allred, 41, dead with a bullet wound to his chest. Devoe was named a suspect in that killing.
Devoe, who is originally from Suffolk County, N.Y., is believed to now live in Austin. The Lone Star Fugitive Task Force, the Texas Rangers and police from Jonestown, Marble Falls and Lago Vista are assisting in the investigation.
Investigators responded to the home on Hobby Lane after Jonestown police received a call Sunday morning from a family member requesting that officers check on loved ones who might be guests the house.

He's been arrested.

This is the case that's pretty much robbed me of any decent rest today. There was a ton of info on the Web about the killer, Paul Devoe, and his victims. You can see it here:

http://crimeblog.us/?p=537

All the info has been confirmed at this point as belonging to both the killer and 3 of the 4 murder victims in Jonestown, TX.

Including a woman in Greencastle, PA, Devoe may have killed 6 in his cross-country spree.

Just wanted to say that I live 5 minutes from Jonestown where the four people were murdered. Way too close for comfort as we're just not used to hearing about this around here...it brought new meaning to me this weekend about the saying "Feel safe at night. Sleep with a cop!"

I'm so happy that they have this man in custody and I pray for the victim's families. It's just heartbreaking!!!

Thank you Steve for the most accurate report I've found (especially since I get to know some of the insider information from my LEO hubby!) There isn't anything he's told me that you haven't already found out! Impressive as usual!!

"RIVERHEAD, N.Y. — The family of a man charged in the deaths of six people in Texas and Pennsylvania said Monday that at the time of the cross country killing spree, the suspect was suffering psychological problems caused by a rattle snake bite he had received days before.

A Suffolk County Court judge in Riverhead, N.Y. approved the extradition to Texas of Paul Devoe III, who is wanted in Austin for the the Aug. 26 killings of an ex-girlfriend, 46-year-old Paula Griffith; her 15-year-old daughter, the daughter's 17-year-old friend, and Griffith's boyfriend, 48-year-old Jay Feltner. sorry but that is the lamest excuse yet...

AUSTIN (KXAN) - As the capital murder trial of Paul Devoe begins, Marble Falls residents remember the death of Michael Allred - a bartender authorites allege was Devoe's first victim.

The former handyman is on trial for the deaths of Haylie Faulkner, 15, and Danielle Hensley, 17, though he is accused of killing a total of six people.

Devoe has sat in court emotionless - giving little to no expression in response to the details of what happened in Marble Falls that August 2007 night.

AUSTIN (KXAN) - After deliberating for just 19 minutes Friday afternoon, the jury in the capital murder case against Paul Devoe brought back a guilty verdict. Devoe wiped away tears after the verdict was read.

After four days of testimony, both sides rested their cases Thursday evening. The defense did not call any of their own witnesses.
