The photo of the ducks in the ocean is excellent! What a great story! Thanks for posting it.

Think of it this way...the ocean has dilluted it! Think of all the children who were saved from soaking in their "lead" filled bathtubs everyday because the container broke! The silver lining perhaps.
 
I'm puzzled by the picture... I've been following this story for quite some time (years) and the duckies definitely aren't yellow anymore after 15 years at sea.... The ducks in the picture seem to be the ones used for 'duck races', see how they're wearing sunglasses?

Anyway, there can't be too much lead in them, or they wouldn't have floated... :D :p
 
I bet the picure was when they were originally dumped or soon after since the pain is still fresh looking.

I was just kidding around! lol It's probably plastic chemicals in this case, instead of lead.

I love rubber duckies though! They are so cute.

Does anyone remember the cargo spill of tennis shoes? They came up on shore somewhere and people were fighting for pairs. I think they were Nike or Reeboks. lol

I wonder what else is floating (or has sunk) around our waterways?!
 
I was here http://www.ecomare.nl/emc.asp?pageId=490 a few times and they had an exhibit of things that had washed up from the ocean through the years. I forget if it was a ship full of new cars (Volvo's) that sank or if just a lot of them went overboard but for a long time people were able to get their spare Volvo parts right off the beach (so to speak). :D I remember being amazed at all the things that washed up besides that. I also remember being terribly relieved when our furniture and other belongings finally arrived in the US from Europe, after weeks on the ocean. Just thinking of all my stuff floating out there, okay still on a ship, but yikes!

I agree that the pic is of "duck race" duckies and probably used as representation, and not the actual ones spilled. The article said the spill was a mix of ducks, frogs, and something else.

I saw an article about these a couple of years ago and it said that shipping containers get spilled or fall off ships on a pretty regular basis.
