Boyfriend Charged In Teen's Death
DESOTO, Kan. -- A DeSoto High School senior's boyfriend was charged with murder when the 17-year-old girl died from her injuries after falling off a moving SUV on Ottawa Street in DeSoto.
Griselda Del Real died after she was run over Friday night by an SUV a block from her house on West 83rd and Ottawa streets. Police said the person behind the wheel was 19-year-old Johnny Landa, her boyfriend.
Landa was taken into custody. On Tuesday, charges were upgraded to reckless murder in the second degree and obstruction of legal process. He was arraigned Tuesday afternoon.
"Mr. Landa demonstrated a reckless indifference, extreme indifference, to the value of human life," said Johnson County Attorney General Phill Kline.

She jumped on his car in a jealous rage???
IMO that contributed to her death and I am not sure such harsh charges should be filed against the boyfriend.
I think I need more info on this one!

From January 2008:
A jury last week convicted a 19-year-old De Soto man of a misdemeanor for his role in the death last year of his girlfriend, 17.
Johnny Landa's defense attorney, Tom Bath, said the guilty verdict of vehicular homicide and not second-degree murder proved Griselda Del Real's death was an accident...
The misdemeanor carries a maximum sentence of one year in jail. Landa already has served more than five months.
