Bumping this case up. I origionally posted it in 2007 when Mr. Jackson had been missing for 20 years. There have been 129 viewings of the post to date, but no other posts to it.

Guam is a small island territory of the US. It is about 15 miles long from north to south. The only real way to get to or from Guam is by way of the Guam Airport. It is possible that Jackson simply drove to the airport and then flew out of Guam. But it is also quite possible that he was murdered on Guam and the killer or killers planted his car at the airport to make it APPEAR that he had left the island.

In 1987, there was no gate or paid parking at the airport. You simply drove in and parked your car, leaving it for someone else to pick up or to await your return. Plane tickets would have been purchased in a person's name, but there was no where near the required security and Identification needed like there is today.

1987 missing person case may be homicide

Twenty-four years ago, police found a maroon car in an airport parking lot with blood in the vehicle, and the car's owner is still missing today.

Jonathan Bruce Jackson, a 31-year-old car salesman who was widely known as "Mojo," has not been seen on Guam since 1987, but it's hard to believe he could just disappear into thin air Special Agent Barry Flores, said last week.

Flores, a supervisor of the Guam Police Department's Cold Case Unit, explained on Wednesday how investigators are considering reclassifying Jackson's missing person case as an unsolved murder.

25 Years missing...

June will mark the 25 year anniversary of Jonathan B. Jackson's disappearance. Due to the fact that he has never turned up anywhere in the world, it would appear likely that he was murdered and his body disposed of on Guam.

Missing for 34 years...

from an article dated July 23, 2011

Cold Case investigators learned in recent weeks that Jackson's wife recently had her husband declared legally dead, which allows investigators to reclassify the case.

"Right now, we are still taking this as a missing person, but, ... because of the suspected foul play in the vehicle, we're leaning towards homicide," Flores said.

This article is the latest installment in the Pacific Daily News biweekly Cold Case series, which was revived a few months ago with the cooperation of GPD, which is trying to ease a backlog of unsolved murders. This is the first article in this series to focus on a case that is not classified as a homicide.

This article is a last-ditch effort to find evidence that Jackson is still alive, Flores said.

If you have seen or spoken to Jackson any time since his disappearance, or any information that might suggest he was not killed, you should contact the Cold Case unit immediately.

According to PDN files, Jackson went missing in June of 1987, when he left his Agana Heights home on a Tuesday evening and never returned. Jackson left home to go drinking with co-workers. His pregnant wife reported him missing the following Thursday morning.

Police found Jackson's car, a Mazda hatchback, in an airport parking lot a few days later, PDN files state. Two months after that, police confirmed they had found human blood inside the car, but didn't say how much.

According to the Cold Case unit, a review of airline manifests revealed that a plane ticket to Chuuk had been booked in Jackson's name.

The ticket was for a flight on June 14, 1987 -- three days after Jackson disappeared -- but the missing man never boarded that flight, Flores said.

It is possible Jackson really did book the ticket, or that the ticket was booked in Jackson's name by someone else in an attempt to make it look like the man had left Guam, Flores said.

Flores said Jackson's wife and daughter, who was an unborn child when her father disappeared, still live on Guam. They have cooperated with investigators but asked not to be interviewed for this article, Flores said.

" ... The wife and adult daughter have come to terms with his disappearance and moved on with their lives," Flores wrote in a case summary. "The wife and daughter had to cope with the painful experience and acceptance that Jackson's return is never going to be."
