The family background is very interesting. Doris was Doris Peterson (or Petersen) before marrying Alex Scandalis in 1950. Alex Scandalis was a Korean War pilot and then moved on to be a pilot for Air America, the covert airline set up by the CIA to support it's operations. Alex Scandalis was killed when his plane crashed after take off from Saigon in 1965. It seems surprising if the disappearance of the wife of a CIA employee was not thoroughly investigated. Two possibilities occur; firstly that the authorities knew what happened and made sure it was kept quiet, or they preferred to keep the investigation "in house" and (whatever they found, even if nothing) this explains the lack of a public search.
