Katesia Weathers, the Pine Bluff woman who went missing nearly four months ago after trying to escape a violent relationship with her boyfriend, is 27 years old today.
Weathers, a slight 95-pound, black-haired, brown-eyed woman who loved to care for children and to write poetry, went missing May 22 — the same day she was scheduled to attend a hearing at Jefferson County Circuit Court to get a protective order against a man she said “snatched” her out of a house in January, stripped her naked and then punched, bit, choked and kicked her until she collapsed, her mouth full of dirt and her head submerged in muddy water.
Detectives with the Pine Bluff Police Department recently identified that man, 29-year-old Pine Bluff resident Mario Scott, as the primary suspect in her disappearance and possible death, according to a search warrant affidavit filed in late August in the court.
Possible pieces of bones were found during an Aug. 24 search of property owned by Scott’s family in the Tarry community. Also found and collected as evidence were a rug with stains, a red-colored shoe, one roll of 35mm unused film, a burned photograph with “Keisha White” written on the back, a red cloth with metal attached and an Armstrong Forge wooden-handle kitchen knife with a 7 1/2-inch blade.
“Since the beginning of the investigation, the detective division has received information from more than one person stating that Weathers’ body was transported to 695 Addison Road, Tarry, Ark., where her remains were burned in a burn barrel,” said the affidavit.
The detectives also have a recording of another suspect in the investigation, a 30-year-old Pine Bluff resident, talking about the disposal of Weathers’ body at the property in Tarry, according to the affidavit.
Neither the suspect nor Scott have been charged with any crime associated with Weathers’ disappearance. While one could not immediately be located, Scott is being held in the Jefferson County Jail on other charges.
Lt. Bob Rawlinson, spokesman for the Pine Bluff Police Department, said the search at Scott’s residence in Tarry south of Pine Bluff was part of a continuing investigation into Weathers’ disappearance.
He said he believes the bones found were dog bones.
“I was out there and there were dead dogs everywhere,” Rawlinson said. “There were no human bones found that we know of at this time. As of right now, there is no definitive knowledge of (Weathers’) whereabouts.”

From March 2010:
Weathers was beaten at a house in Pine Bluff. He dumped her body in woods within the city. A week later, court records show he returned to the woods and put her body in a barrel, then set it on fire. Her remains were never found...
After changing his plea to no contest, a judge sentenced Scott to 25 years without parole. He is already serving a 22-year sentence for beating Weathers.
Deputy prosecuting attorney Kyle Hunter says, "I personally think that Mario Scott deserves to spend the rest of his life in prison, but under the facts of this particular case we think that 25 years at 100 percent on top of what he is already doing is a good verdict."
