Praia da Luz — A maid who is alleged to have abducted Madeleine McCann as revenge for being fired from the vacation resort where the missing girl was staying is being investigated by Portuguese police.
The identity of the maid was e-mailed to the official website of the Prince of Wales at the end of last week. Police have confirmed that the woman had worked at the Ocean Club resort in Praia da Luz. They have also discovered that the e-mail appeared to have been sent from a computer with an IP address in the Iberian peninsula.
Clarence House immediately informed Scotland Yard of the tip-off and forwarded the details to officers from Leicestershire police, who are leading the inquiry in Britain. The Prince and the Duchess of Cornwall issued a statement soon after Madeleine went missing saying that they were following the case “closely and with deep concern”.
A source close to Madeleine’s parents, Kate and Gerry McCann, said, “We hope that the police will follow up any information given to them. Kate and Gerry are encouraged by anything that focuses on finding Madeleine.”
Portuguese detectives have already completed checks on members of staff at the Ocean Club complex when Madeleine was reported missing on May 3, and have been attempting to track down former employees.

Other residents of the resort complex claimed that they suspected a member of staff could have been involved in a series of burglaries at the Ocean Club in the weeks before Madeleine disappeared 151 days ago.
Details of the tip-off came as a Portuguese newspaper reported that detectives believe Madeleine died by falling down a short flight of stairs at the ground-floor holiday apartment. Two senior police sources allegedly told 24 Horas there were “strong suspicions” that the girl had smashed the back of her head against ceramic tiles on the steps.
However, there was a child-proof safety gate at the top of the only stairs that lead from the rear patio down to the street. The newspaper said that the Forensic Science Service in Birmingham had discovered samples which showed that Madeleine had died of a head wound. But it is highly unlikely that traces of bodily fluids and hair recovered from the McCanns’ apartment and hire car would allow for such a conclusion to be drawn.
Mr. and Mrs. McCann hope to be allowed to speak publicly for the first time since being made official suspects in her disappearance on September 7. The McCanns’ lawyers are expected to meet their counterparts in Lisbon this week to discuss how the couple can speak out without breaking the strict Portuguese law of judicial secrecy.
A source close to the family said: “They want to put their side of the story but do not want to antagonise the Portuguese police despite everything that has happened.”
Friends of the couple, from Rothley, Leicestershire, say they are desperate to refocus the media’s attention on the hunt for their daughter. Details of an £80,000 advertising campaign in Spain, Portugal and Morocco are expected to be announced later this week.
The McCanns are particularly keen to promote the search in Morocco following a number of unconfirmed sightings. One sighting last week turned out to be a local girl.
A new sighting was reported yesterday, when James Valarino, 65, from Gibralter, said he was convinced that he had seen Madeleine in the town of Tangiers with a north European man on August 8. The man ran off with the girl when Mr Valarino called Madeleine’s name, the Sunday Express reported.

Why will a maid, bent on revenge against her employer, take it out on an little 3 year old child????? Yeah she so pizzed off she thinks boy I really want revenge, what little innocent 3 year old can I kidnap? The maid will terrorize an innocent family and not the resort, the object of her anger?

Don't think this is what happened to Madeline.

And, Grandma McCann in a recent statement said that Madeline would have been yelling and screaming if a stranger took her - unless she was drugged. I wonder how a maid pulled this off (LOL).

Yeah it doesn't add up to me.

I really find it hard to believe a disgruntled maid would pick the little girl of some couple not even actually staying in the actual resort, for revenge.

If that were true, Madeleine would have been turned over safely a long time ago, by one of the maid's relatives or friends, seeking to get that massive reward.

That story has been discredited! Surprise! Surprise!

This, to me, is very interesting!!!!!!

The bolding is mine. Could they have recovered "brain matter"? Terrible thought! I have no faith in the 24 Horas paper nor do I think things are being leaked from the Forensic Science Service, so I take this with a hugh, hugh grain of salt. Still, interesting thought.

Er, it has? Where is a release from Portugal or Scotland Yard saying so, please? :waitasec:

ETA: Not to say I also am not buying this new story, (the idea a maid kidnapped Maddie is ridiculous) but I'd like to see official confirmation that it's merely a fantasy the media has pounced on to make a few more bucks. *cynical*

E-MAIL WAS JUST A FARCE

Another lead followed by Policia Judiciaria revealed itself a farce. The e-mail that was reported by several newspapers yesterday, including CM, and which was sent to Prince Charles, mentioning an abduction as revenge for a dismissal at the Ocean Club, was sent by someone who signed under a false name. The woman, who said her name was Esmeralda Luego, does not exist after all, and the authorities failed to track down the electronic mail itself. Besides, the woman mentions the kidnapping of a child in a hotel in Lisbon, which gave the story little credibility. The McCann had already been informed that the lead was inconsistent, and was considered just one more, among so many unreliable pieces of information that have reached the investigators over the recent months. The most media-exposed and most recent one was a sighting in Morocco, a piece of news that was promptly commented by the McCann's advisor. After all, the girl that had been photographed by a Spanish woman was four years old and the daughter of a Moroccan woman and a Belgian man. In less than 24 hours, the news was dismissed, but the McCanns reaffirmed the thesis that the child is alive.

It's true that the revenge motive seems about 40 degrees amiss but otherwise this latest lead gave me pause. An employee of The Ocean Club might be the only person who would place the Cuddle Cat up on a shelf. An employee would be more aware of when the apt. was unsupervised. If a maid was fired (& that seems to be true), I do not think she acted alone in the abduction of Madeleine. She and her accomplices may have committed other crimes, such as the burglaries. I have wondered about using a pillow to smother the child. Again, I agree that this is a very strange target for revenge.

I wonder how many prank emails Prince Charles gets on a daily basis.

Someone please explain to me how anyone came to that conclusion.??!?
For gawd's sake there is no body--- there was no reported blood on the stairs.

I have no idea how someone came to that conclusion but here are my thoughts.

If a person is going to follow this case and be an amateur sleuth, they have to make the decision on what to believe and what not to believe. As we've seen in the case of rags here in the United States, sometimes they DO get information that's correct, ie the Simpson case and the Bruno Magli shoes. Or autopsy photos of Jonbenet Ramsey...or whatever.

So, who knows? This may be just another lurid headline to get people reading. It could well have absolutely no basis in fact.

Or it could be part of information within thousands of pages of documents no one here is privy to. There could've been a leak from any number of sources. One day we could find out that they do have a body..or there was brain matter found on the step...or someone took a video of the fall...

Do I believe any of those scenarios....hmmm...not really. But I also don't totally close them off as absolutely not possible to be true.

I'm not so firmly wed to one viewpoint that I absolutely can't see even the remotest possiblity that this case could go either way - with the McCanns innocence or guilt.

In the end, I want Maddie to be found. I no longer believe she's alive but oh I pray to be proven wrong! But, even if she is dead, I want her body to be found so she can be put to rest properly.

Right Teacherbees, the tabloids were absolutely right in the OJ trial and several other semi-dire cases (Brittney to lose custody!!!!) as well.

They have $$$ and an extremely motivated staff to find anything to print.

And they are not beholden to Clarence Mitchell. (Yes, we still use archaic language here, courtesy of our long ago forebears who sought freedom and riches in the New World.)

More seriously, we don't know what blood samples were found or identifed anywhere in the resort. The PJ and the Mccanns aren't telling.

Yeah, take this with a grain of salt. Better yet, a whole salt shaker.
