Mike Delong walked out of Piedmont Hospital on Friday, called a family member to come pick him up and went missing.
Delong, 53, had been at the hospital for eight days undergoing treatment for a "serious medical condition." His close companion, Nancy Anthony, did not want to say what was ailing him.
On Friday, he left the hospital "in a state of confusion," Anthony said. When a relative drove up to meet him at the location where Delong asked to be picked up, he was nowhere to be found.
Having exhausted all their options searching for him, Delong's family and friends put out a call for assistance from the public.
Delong, who repairs and remodels homes, is in dire need of medication without which his health could be at risk, his family said.
He is described as a white man, 5'10" tall and weighing 240 pounds with a stocky build. He has blue eyes, balding light brown hair and a goatee that is graying. When he was last seen, Delong was wearing a tan shirt and shorts with tan New Balance tennis shoes.
Anyone with information should call the Atlanta police department's Missing Persons Unit at 404-853-4235.

On Oct. 13, Nancy Anthony’s mystery was tragically solved. Someone walking a dog near Peachtree Creek happened upon the body of Anthony’s longtime partner, Mike Delong, who had been missing since Sept. 7. The discovery was reported to the Atlanta Police Department, who, in turn, referred the body to a forensic dentist, who identified it as that of Delong.
An autopsy report is still pending, but according to APD Spokesman James Polite, there was no immediate evidence of foul play.
