Next Sunday, at 6:30 p.m., there will be a candlelight vigil at the downtown square for a missing 39-year-old woman

The day would mark the six-month disappearance of Christine Wiles who was last seen alive on April 21.

In early August, Marion County sheriff's deputies, with assistance from its volunteer Emergency Response Team, and the U.S. Forest Service searched an area north of State Road 40 and south to Forest Road 597. They also checked the shooting range near Forest Road 88 and a lake by the southeast corner of SR 40 and State Road 19.

Wiles is white, 5 feet 6 inches tall, 160 pounds with auburn hair and blue eyes.

Anyone with any information about the case can call Sheriff's detective Rhonda Stroup at 732-9111, or Crime Stoppers at 368-STOP. A $5,000 reward is being offered.

Marion County sheriff's deputies today are expected to search a portion of the Ocala National Forest in the hopes of finding a missing 39-year-old woman who was last seen on April 21. But the news, so far, is not good. They have found her car, with blood in the trunk.

Authorities found Christine Wiles' car on July 24 in Marion County, but they are not saying where the 1995 Chrysler New Yorker was located.

A sheriff's press release simply said it "may have been seen in the area of the Ocala National Forest."

Maj. Chris Blair, bureau chief of the department's Major Crimes Unit, said Friday the amount of blood discovered was enough to do an analysis.

"We believe foul play is involved and we want to find this girl. We believe she's in the area of the Ocala National Forest and we're going to search tomorrow with K-9, air unit - whatever it takes to find her."

Wiles left her home in Ocala on April 9 for Texas, where she planned to visit a girlfriend and seek employment. Wiles did get a job as a waitress at Denny's Restaurant in Texas. Authorities said Wiles' parents didn't know their daughter had gone to Texas.

Wiles returned to Ocala on April 20 and saw her family the next day. She didn't say anything about being in Texas, sheriff's officials said. That was the last time her family saw her.

Approximately six weeks went by, and her parents were worried. It wasn't like her not to stay in touch, especially when so many events went by, including her daughter's 16th birthday party. Then, on June 9, after finding out from friends that his daughter may have been in Texas with her boyfriend, Wiles' father, Timothy Lane Blackburn, contacted the Sheriff's Office. The department told him to contact Texas authorities.

Texas officials listed Wiles as missing/endangered out of Nederland [TX].

Blackburn met the boyfriend only once and does not know his name, so even that meeting would seem to be of little help to authorities.

"It would be wonderful if they did [find her alive], but we don't think it's going to happen," he said. "At this point, we just want to find her and get the person who did this to her."

Blackburn plans to be at the site today.
Blackburn said he suspected something was wrong when his daughter didn't call him for Father's Day or her mother for Mother's Day.

Officials said they are putting together a timeline of her whereabouts, in addition to talking with friends, families and associates. Now, the last sighting was in Belleview on April 21.

Anyone with any information about this case, can call the Detective Rhonda Stroup at 732-9111, or Crime Stoppers at 368-STOP. A $5,000 reward is being offered. She is described as white, 5-foot-6, 160 pounds with auburn hair and blue eyes.

A search is scheduled to take place in the Ocala National Forest on Saturday May 1st, for Christine Wiles. Wiles was last seen April 21, 2007, and was reported missing by her father in early May, 2007. Assistant Public Information Officer for Marion County Sheriff's Office Jennifer Fisher says evidence was found early in the investigation which has led detectives to conduct the search. Fisher adds, the focus of the search will be near and around Wild Cat Lake. The search will begin in the early morning hours and the Florida Trail Association will also have a volunteer group assisting in the search.

Jenifer Fisher, Marion County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman, said that more than 100 law-enforcement officers, including a dive team and K-9 units, and volunteers will comb the site for Wiles' remains or evidence that might provide investigators with clues about her disappearance.

"We hope that the search brings closure to the family and provides us with evidence to further our investigation," Fisher said.

Wiles' father reported her missing after she failed to attend her daughter's 16th birthday party. On June 24, Marion authorities found a large amount of blood inside a 1995 Chrysler New Yorker owned by Christine Wiles. DNA tests later revealed the blood to be hers.

Fisher said authorities decided to search the area around Wildcat Lake because a witness reported seeing the Chrysler in the area around the time of her disappearance. The Sheriff's Office has searched the area before, but not as extensively as it will today.

Fisher declined to say where her Chrysler was found, but said that it was not at Wildcat Lake. In August, authorities searched another area of the Ocala forest near State Road 40 and Forest Road 88, but said they found nothing related to the case.

Stephen Hudak, Helen Eckinger, Jerry Fallstrom and Robert Sargent of the Sentinel staff contributed to this report.

I agree. There isn't much out there on her. I will contact them and see if these have been considered.

Apparently the charges were dropped. The case was too circumstantial. I feel for the family.

NOTE: On March 1, 2013, the Ocala Star Banner reported that all charges against Billy Ashton have been dropped:*"The State Attorney’s Office has dropped its murder charge against Billy Joe Ashton, the man accused of killing Christine Blackburn-Wiles six years ago.
*
"State Attorney Brad King, in a three-page explanation, wrote that much of the evidence linking Ashton to the death was entirely circumstantial.
*
"'That is,' King wrote, 'there is no direct proof by either witnesses nor admissible statements of the defendant that Ashton killed the victim, and the victim’s body has never been located.'"

From April 2015:

"No closure for Christine Blackburn-Wiles' parents 8 years after her disappearance"

http://www.ocala.com/article/20150421/ARTICLES/150429915?tc=ar

It has been eight years since their daughter, Christine Blackburn-Wiles, disappeared, and they have a strong suspicion their daughter's boyfriend at the time, Billy Joe Ashton, could have the answers to many unanswered questions.

“Find it in your heart, and just tell us where she is to give us some closure,” Tim Blackburn said by phone on Tuesday. His daughter, 39 at the time of her disappearance, was the mother of four children, a boy and three girls.

bilde

At least they threw the book at him for the easily proven charges. Thirty years might be more than he would have gotten on a second degree murder conviction or guilty plea.

No closure for family as woman's disappearance hits 12-year mark

Tim Blackburn always hoped one day he would see his daughter’s remains, and give her a proper funeral.

That wish never came through for Blackburn, who on April 9, died with his family by his side in Franklin, North Carolina, after illness. He was 80.

“He was looking forward to that,” said Blackburn’s daughter, Leah Blackburn-Hardy, about law enforcement officials finding her sister’s remains.

Blackburn-Hardy said at the time of her father’s death, “He was at peace, and ready to go see her.”

Tim Blackburn’s death came 12 days before the 12-year anniversary of the disappearance of his daughter, Christine Blackburn-Wiles.

Such a sad case. I hope the rest of her family will get answers very soon.
