Part of the article linked below;
"I do surmise this - when she ran, she got to the bedroom she could have just laid on the bed or something. It was as though she had turned around to check on me, like she was worried, so she stopped in the doorway and she turned back around and that was when she got hit."

As Shawn repeated his location over and over to the 911 operator, he bent by his wife's side.

"Here's people in Horton and they don't know where Powhattan is, and that just blows me away. We're not talking Cherry Creek here, it's some place right down the road. I had to say it ten times, it was so frustrating."

Then Shawn remembers kissing his wife's belly and bidding his child goodbye. "Until now I didn't know that was what I was doing. I felt compelled to kiss my wife on the belly. I thought, 'You know Shawn, your baby is saying goodbye.'"

When emergency crews arrived 15 minutes later, it was apparent that Jodie had died instantly.

"The one thing I am glad for is that my wife didn't' suffer. She died instantly, however my baby didn't," he said. Shawn asked if his little girl could be saved, but because of the length of time it had taken the ambulance to get to the Bordeaux home and the distance back to a hospital, he was told that the baby didn't have a chance of survival. In less than five minutes, Shawn Bordeaux had lost a wife he cherished and the dream of a little girl he never met.

He is angry now as he looks back on the police treatment of the crime scene.

Part of the Unsolved Mysteries article;

Late on November 21st, Shawn and Jodie were spending a quiet night at home when a strange noise startled the Bordeaux's dog. Shawn followed him to the back porch. Soon bullets were fired through the home. Shawn could see that Jodie was dead. He quickly dialed 911 hoping to save his unborn baby, but to no avail. That night, Shawn lost both Jodie and the baby. Despite an exhaustive investigation, four years later, no one has been charged with murder. There were no witnesses and no weapons were found. But Shawn still holds out hope that someday there will be justice for Jodie.

:bump: for Jodie . . . adding another old article to her thread:

'Unsolved Mysteries' explores Kickapoo double murder
Mary Pierpoint | June 20, 2001

Snipped:

Jodie Bordeaux was seven months pregnant when she was killed in what has been termed a drive-by shooting in her home in the early morning hours of Nov. 21, 1997. She and her husband Shawn both worked at the Golden Eagle Casino and had been in an employment dispute.

Who was the casino employee put on probation that filed the grievance causing Jodie Lynn to be fired?

With all the shots fired into the house there must be ballistics evidence besides the found shell casings? What was the caliber of the weapon?

With a vehicle being heard driving away was there any sound of a car door being shut? Could the shots have been fired from a vehicle possibly indicating two perps? Any tire tracks found?

Anyone know if the Unsolved Mysteries program can be found on line somewhere? What did the UM director mean when talking about the case he said there are areas of gray; it's not all black & white?

Why does the Find A Grave Memorial #8080243 to Jodie Lynn say in part:

"...she was shot to death in her home by a disgruntled former tribal co-worker. No one has come forward with information about who killed Jodie and her unborn daughter..."?

This must be speculation by the person who posted the memorial? Could the truth of what happened actually be known but there just not be enough evidence to obtain a conviction?

In the Mary Pierpoint interview with Shawn Bordeaux, Shawn says,

"The first shot was one and then there was a pause. Then it was like someone lit a twenty-pack of firecrackers. It was an automatic rifle."

Rather than an automatic rifle I believe there were multiple shooters. KS Gov Bill Grave's Executive Order #01-01 establishing a reward fund tends to support the multiple shooters theory when it says in part:

"...numerous shell casing were found at the scene that correspond with the bullet entry holes into the house. Examination of the scene determined that bullets entered the house in several locations."

Gov Bill Graves went on to say again in part:

"...the investigation has identified several individuals who may have knowledge or involvement in the murder of Jodie Bordeaux, but at this time law enforcement has not received or discovered the needed evidence to proceed with the arrest and/or prosecution of the individual(s) responsible for Ms. Bordeaux's death."

Again, establishes as fact that LE believes there were multiple individuals involved. That statement in part, along with Shawn Bordeaux statement during his interview with the director of the Unsolved Mysteries episode,

"They have quite a bit of information, they just don't have quite enough to bring it to a close."

leads to the conclusion that the facts of the case are well known by LE but they lack the evidence that would lead to an arrest/arrests and obtain a conviction in a court of law. It's going to take a witness or a weapon to turn up for LE to be able to proceed.

Without the names of the "several individuals who may have knowledge or involvement" to look into, there is not much more we can do either.

A friend of mine recently moved to Brown County and heard about this case. It was also just featured on a rerun of Unsolved Mysteries. Anyway, here is a recent article. Even after an inquest Jodie's family still has no closure and they live with the fact that even though LE has suspects, people with information are not coming forward and the motive cannot be proved. Due to a snafu with property boundaries the FBI did not participate in the investigation (although who know how much more they could have done). The reward is only $5k, I wonder if a larger reward would help?

RIP Jodie and Baby Bordeaux. :rose:

So, so, sad. I know there are no words to ease your loss, Shawn. I hope people who have answers will come forward one day soon...

Just saw the old UM segment regarding this case. Very disturbing. I can see how someone could commit the crime & get away without being seen by anyone - given that Jodie and her husband lived in an isolated area, and didn't seem to have close neighbors, etc. What a cowardly & heinous act.

This was horrible, and resulted in the death of two people (Jodie & her unborn baby). I agree it looks like a disgruntled former co-worker may have done this, but with no proof I can completely understand why no one was ever arrested re: the case. That being said, I wonder how thoroughly this was investigated?!
