ST. JOHNS COUNTY, FL -- The body of a partially clothed woman has been found in St. Johns County.

A crew with the Department of Environmental Protection found the body this morning off State Road 13 in the Orangedale area.

DEP workers were out taking soil samples when they found the body about twenty feet from the side of the road.

The St. Johns County Sheriff's office says the woman is middle-aged, and her body's been here for about a day. Investigators say despite the woman being partially clothed, it's too early to determine whether she's been sexually assaulted.

Awww, very sad. She was found so quickly then evidence should still be present on the body. I hope they make an ID so they can find out who did this to her. Bless her heart. I am so tired of women being tossed along the side of the road like trash. It is just unforgivable to me.

Investigators have identified the partially-clothed woman found dead on State Road 13.

She's identified as Maria Martinez, 51, of Jacksonville.

The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office says the woman's husband reported her missing Sunday afternoon.

An autopsy is expected to take place Wednesday to determine a cause of death.

At the conclusion of a Wednesday hearing that approached the two-and-a-half-hour mark, the grandfatherly man who heard friends and family describe him as "humble," "happy," "noble" and "kind" was sentenced to 12 years in prison for strangling his wife and leaving her body in a ditch.

Oscar Hernandez, who turns 70 years old in two weeks, tried for the third time since March to withdraw his admission that he had strangled his wife, Maria E. Martinez, on Nov. 4, 2007.

He entered a no contest plea to manslaughter on Nov. 9, 2010, six days before his second-degree murder trial was to begin.
