"At 1:51 p.m. Friday, Schroeder called the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office, which is currently investiging the discovery of what appear to be human remains near South 120th and Van Dorn streets.

Sheriff’s Sgt. Tom Trotter said a prelimary investigation leads officials to believe that the remains are human, though details beyond that were unclear.

Age, gender and other general details weren’t determined before nightfall, he said. A crime scene team will begin investigating the matter this morning."

...and...

"They saw a long gun and a gun case, Eric Schroeder said. And he also noticed a cell phone. Trotter declined to confirm or deny whether the specific items had been found at the scene."

No ID on remains yet

The Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office remained tight-lipped Saturday about the human remains found Friday afternoon near South 120th and Van Dorn streets.

Sgt. Kris Hillabrand said investigators worked at the scene all day Saturday, and were expected to do the same today. She would not provide any further details on the investigation, other than referring to a sheriff’s office press release.

According to the release, “the death is being investigated as suspicious.”

The sheriff’s office did say whether they had identified the victim, but did not release a name on Saturday.

"Investigators still are working to answer questions following the discovery of human remains Friday at South 120th and Van Dorn streets, east of Lincoln."

"With the help of a pathologist and forensic experts, investigators are first working to answer those questions, along with when the person died."

“We’re checking missing persons reports back probably to the first of 2007 and may have to go back farther than that to determine if there are any missing persons who match the general description of some of the evidence that we have located,” he said.

"Wagner said investigators also are considering the last hunting season a year ago, among other things, to help determine when people would have been in the area last."

Investigators said Tuesday the human remains found Friday at South 120th and Van Dorn streets are those of a Lincoln man who has been missing since this summer.

Dental records confirmed the man is Nathan Anton, 27, who was reported missing in July. Investigators said the cause of Anton's death is still under investigation.
