Police are investigating the death of a 14-year-old Columbus County boy who had been missing since late November.

A hunter found the body of Rashed Delamez Jones on Wednesday afternoon in a wooded area of Barney Tyler Road, a dirt road just outside Whiteville, said Capt. David Nobles of the Columbus County Sheriff's Office.

Nobles said Rashed apparently died from gunshot wounds, according to preliminary autopsy reports. He said authorities suspect foul play, adding the body appeared to be at the spot it was found for at least a week.

Rashed's family reported him missing after his bike was found on Thanksgiving abandoned on the side of a rural road a few hundred yards from his grandmother's house in Whiteville.

How terrible, this is such a very young life, not lived...

A little piece of my heart breaks off with each of these sad stories on here. I was so hoping this little guy would be found safe. God bless him and his family and friends. :(

He was just a baby... what a cruel place this world can be. :(

A Columbus County jury Wednesday found Santonio Jenrette guilty in a 2007 drive-by shooting death in Lake Waccamaw and the killing weeks later of a teen witness – Jenrette's own cousin.

After less than four hours of deliberation, jurors found Jenrette guilty of first-degree murder in the killing of Darnell Frink, 22, of Chadbourn. Jenrette also was found guilty of first-degree murder in the death of his 14-year-old cousin, Rashed Delamez Jones, who investigators said was with Jenrette when he opened fire on a group of people Sept. 21, 2007, as they stood outside Sam's Pit Stop in Lake Waccamaw.

From October 2014:
