Well, this is why we have co-pilots. Hopefully both pilot and co-pilot don't trip at the same time.

I thought that's one of the reasons why they are trained to use the instruments.
 
You know what the first thing was that I thought... I wonder if this could have happened to Steve Fossett?
 
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spatial_disorientation this site tells more about spatial disorientation. I dont think this is what to Steve. He would had have had instruments training to fly the airplanes and to fly to the places he flew. most likly he had a gps to fly by to so I dont think he just got lost either. My husband is a private pilot so I do know some thing about flying.
 
Was this not the "condition" that John Kennedy Jr. found himself in when his plane crashed. If I recall correctly, he had a cast on his foot, people told him that "it was foolish to fly in the night considering the weather, and that he was flying over open ocean and had no visual reference and was not instrument rated.
 
ohhh goodness....that title scared me for a sec...i thought it meant trip like tripping on shrooms or other kinds of drugs. I was thinking i would never get on a plane again!
