A female guerrilla deserted Colombia's largest rebel army and carried a 4-year-old hostage on a 24-hour jungle trek back to his family, authorities said.
The guerrilla hiked through the jungle with Brian Rincon Arias in her arms to reach a military base in the northeast border town of Arauquita on Tuesday, Gen. Jose Joaquin Cortes, head of the army's second division, told local media.
The child was kidnapped in June from a nursery school in the city of Cucuta and was placed in the care of the female guerrilla, who was identified only by her nickname, "La Negra."

OMGosh, that's so wonderful! That poor child must have missed his parents so much.

What will happen to "La Negra" now? :(

I haven't heard much in the media lately about the kidnapping situation. For a while there it was big news on the major networks. Guess there must not be any US citizens in that situation currently.
 
That is great news. I have never heard of children being kidnapped. There was a story on CNN not long ago of a Colombian/French woman who has been held for 8 years. She said she is not doing well and for her family to continue to send her messages. Thier government really needs to do something and save these people. They have had some hostages for more than a decade. One man escaped about a year ago and told of many hostages being held captive.

It also was mentioned in one of the articles that La Negra is put into some kind of program to help her reintegrate into society. Geez Taxi, don't you read the links?!? ;) :D

It really is about all three of them, and it doesn't seem very up to date.

It's just sickening and it makes me very angry. Be a rebel, fine. But don't go holding innocent people hostage for your purposes. I have to step away from this a bit because of how angry this makes me.

Seeing Ingrid Betancourt's has made me cry. she looks so forlorn. :(

i was in Colombia around 10 years ago. i never once thought of the risks.

I know both of these women have looks of such despair. I am not sure which one it was but one of them said something to the affect of how horrible it is to be the only woman there in a camp of men... I hope they are set free safely soon.

Yes I saw the news! I'm afraid to be too happy yet though, until I see something on the news about them really being freed.... but if it really happens this time that's awesome. I know two is just the tip of the iceberg, but it gives some hope... a little tiny bit of hope for the others.

Colombia's government says it wants to swap high-profile captives like Betancourt and three Americans snatched in 2003 for jailed rebels. But the two sides are deadlocked over conditions for a hostage exchange.
In a video released by the FARC last year, Betancourt appeared gaunt and depressed. She told her mother in a letter she was barely eating and her hair was falling out in clumps.

I believe they are talking about the American soldiers. I hope so, I hope they all come home soon.
