MAUNA KEA, Hawaii -- Family and firefighters are giving up their search for a 67-year-old Michigan man who disappeared December 5 in a blizzard atop Hawaii's Mauna Kea.

Brian Murphy, of the Detroit suburb of Plymouth, told an employee at a 9,000-foot-level visitors center that he wanted to hike to the 13,796-foot summit.

The National Weather Service issued a blizzard warning for the summit a few hours later, and a friend reported him missing that night.

I saw on the news tonight that the remains show the person had an artificial hip. That should rule in or out Brian Murphy.
