Police: Human Remains Found

LINCOLN CO, N.C. -- The Lincoln County Sheriff's Office is investigating human remains found in East Lincolnton.

According to a release from the Sheriff's Office, the human remains were found around 5 p.m. Friday in a remote area off Keener Road.

Authorities said the remains were spotted lying in a creek, in a secluded wooded area.

Lincolnton, NC – The human remains were found around 5:00 p.m. Friday afternoon, December 21, 2007, in an area off Keener Road.
The remains were found lying in a creek in a remote wooded area. Officers determined the remains to be human and the area was posted with an officer for security until Saturday morning.

An on the scene investigation was conducted by Lincoln County Sheriff’s detectives and the SBI. The body has been sent to the Medical Examiner’s office in Chapel Hill for an autopsy and possible identification of the body.

At this point, we are unable to determine if the remains are male or female, black or white.

The North Carolina Medical Examiner’s Office in Chapel Hill has identified the decomposed remains found in Lincoln County on Dec. 21, 2007 as those of Robert Gene Logan, 45, of 2979 Chestnut Street, Lincolnton.
Logan was last seen following a July 14, 2007 domestic incident at his residence. Several children playing in a remote wooded area off Keener Road on Saturday, Dec. 21 found Mr. Logan’s body.

LINCOLNTON -- Lincoln County Sheriff's Office personnel, fire and rescue units searched the ponds near Robert Gene Logan's Chestnut Road home Friday.

The search did not turn up any signs or additional clues to the missing man who walked away from his home on Saturday, July 14, and has not been seen by family members since that time. Personnel searched several farm ponds located in the area behind Range Road and Hill Road.

Logan is described a black male, 6'-1" tall and weighs around 185 pounds.
