PA - Melissa Galiyas, 33, found in shallow grave, Clairton, 26 March 2007

The bones found on a hillside in Clairton last week are the remains of a 33-year-old woman missing since April, the Allegheny County medical examiner's office determined yesterday.
The medical examiner also ruled that the death of Melissa Galiyas of Clairton was homicide.
Her remains were discovered at around 2:30 p.m. last Saturday by a hunter not far from her home. Allegheny County homicide detectives were investigating

The remains were found Dec. 22 two blocks from her home. No personal items or clothing were found with the skeleton.

Some of Galiyas’ clothes were found in a trash can shortly after she was reported missing, however.

Makes me wonder about the search! Two blocks from her home?! How did they miss her?!

    from an older article:

Nolder said he also told police about Galiyas's ex-boyfriend. A quick check of the county Web site showed James Hilson was scheduled to stand trial Thursday on charges of assaulting Galiyas. She was testifying against him. Neither one showed up for the trial, court records showed.

"Right now, I'm very concerned. When she didn't show today, let's put it this way, she's either dead or she's locked up, and she can't get out," Nolder said.

At this point, county police said they are not making comments.

That certainly narrows the field of suspects.

    interesting post from that board:

    Important Info!!!
My deepest sympathy for any of Melissa's relatives out there. They are using dental records to identify the bones thought to be Melissa's. She was living with Jack A.[Ambrose] Nolder Sr. on Van Kirk St. where the bones were found. I totally agree with lovedivine29 that the police should focus investigation on Jack Jr.. I know what he is like but if I used the words I would like to use...I would be banned from here. He was 1/2 the reason for my divorce...of course my ex was the other half. My ex is still involved with him at times from what I've been told.
Well...Why I suspect him is because a number of years back, another girl went missing from the same town but it wasn't the other one that is posted here and my ex told me something to the effect that either he had mentioned something about it to her or that she suspected him. I can't remember now but it prompted me to call the investigating division and tell them about it. I am going to call them again as soon as positive ID is made. I don't think its just coincidence with this..based on my dealings with this man...I'm totally convinced he is involved and it would not surprise me if Jack Sr. is as well. One might think that my opinion is biased because of bitterness but I am actually happy now that it happened because I have since found, after 30 years, my first true love and married her in July. I'd thank him if I ever came face to face with him, then probably knock his head off with one punch...J/K. If anyone would like more info...just ask.

Galiyas was last seen in April.
Shortly after Galiyas disappeared, police searched the same area but found nothing, Faux said.

"I always thought she was down there, but I didn't see her, and nobody else seen her after she was seen going down in the woods," Jack Nolder said.
County police are still investigating Galiyas' disappearance.

    police searches are suspect

Melissa's remains were found only two blocks from the house.
this fact tells me they didn't do a very good job of searching.
from what i've seen in the past - police need additional training and help in looking for missing persons esp when evidence is found.
to have people out there looking without a methodical approach is a waste of time and manpower. if they're not using proven methods then they're just shoveling sand against the time and they simply don't have an interest in doing the best job.
    Be well,
    thawk
