Armed with an auger, a chain saw and scuba equipment, a state police dive team yesterday continued the search for a missing Goshen native thought to have gone ice fishing just before he disappeared in December.

Edward A. Ratynski Jr., 53, was reported missing Dec. 18 from the South Fallsburg boardinghouse he had moved to recently. He was last seen on Dec. 12.

A nearly five-hour search this morning of Conklin Pond failed to turn up any signs of a 53-year-old Goshen man who was has been missing since December.

The man, Edward A. Ratynski Jr., had been living in a boarding house less than a mile from the pond in South Fallsburg for about three months, his daughter reported at the time of his disappearance.

Ratynski, an avid fisherman, is believed to have gone to check the ice fishing conditions on Dec. 12. He hasn’t been seen since and was reported missing on Dec. 18.

Edward Ratynski was last seen by his neighbor on December 13, 2007, leaving his residence in the Town of Fallsburg, Sullivan County, N. Y.
Ratynski may have been going to a nearby body of water to check the thickness of the ice for fishing.
Ratynski does not have a vehicle, and there has been activity on his bank account since the date he went missing.

None of the above links are working for me, he does have a NamUs (10002) including a picture and descriptive information:

The National Missing and Unidentified Persons System (NamUs)

Seems a long shot, but skeletal remains were found just over a year ago near a town about 9 miles away (64342). Hair is listed as black, Ratynski's is described as brown, but I wonder if that's close enough. Seems like he would probably be considered automatically?

I know he didn't have a car, but could have hitched a ride or 9 miles is walkable conceivably. Remains were found in a "densely wooded area" so that might actually be closer to South Fallsburg than the town of Liberty proper.

New here, not sure how to check on rule-outs etc

You have to have an account. Once you properly login you can see rule outs and “save” a person to make it easier to find them again.

I have the rule outs attached.
If the “there was bank activity after he was missing” is true and not a typo, then it does not sound like he went missing while fishing, but rather he went and met up with someone afterwards and something happened?
