“The only person that can assist with this is Nick Rose who still refuses to cooperate with us in any way, shape or form.
“From the family’s perspective, they would like to try to put this behind them but they will never be able to do that while Charlotte’s body is outstanding.
“From the conversations I have had with the family, I know it still tortures them to this day.
“We would clearly like to speak to Nick Rose in person but he won’t engage with us. Hopefully, one day he will change his mind and tell us what he did with Charlotte’s body.”
Rose, now 33, murdered Charlotte after she had been on a night out with friends in Ilfracombe. Police conducted a massive search of the countryside, coastline and reservoirs, but her body was never found.

Exeter Crown Court was told that Rose, who maintained his innocence throughout the trial, drove Miss Pinkney to a deserted reservoir, attacked her and dumped her body after she spurned his advances.
---
The court heard that Miss Pinkney had been socialising in pubs and clubs on the night of Feb 27 before going to a house party in Ilfracombe in Devon, where she met Rose.

The court was told that they left the party together at 4.30 am, but instead of visiting friends, Rose drove them to a deserted reservoir where he killed her during an argument over sex and hid her body.

Paul Dunkels, QC, prosecuting, said that Rose was left scratched and bruised as Miss Pinkney fought for her life before being overpowered.

He said traces of blood were found in the car in which Rose was seen driving Charlotte away. Blood was also found on jump leads, the car roof and on one of the trainers he was wearing.

The defendant was seen driving away from a house party with Charlotte as a passenger in his car," Mr Dunkels said.
---
Rose denied killing Miss Pinkney, claiming that he dropped her off close to the party and then ran through bushes because he thought he was being chased by the police.

Murder victim 'seen after death'

Teenager Charlotte Pinkney was seen alive more than 12 hours after she was alleged to have been murdered, the Court of Appeal has heard.

Two witnesses said they saw Charlotte in a pub after she is alleged to have been killed, the court was told.

Postman Nick Perrin and 18-year-old Poppy Humphries said they saw Charlotte in the Victoria Hotel, Ilfracombe, on the afternoon of 28 February 2004.
---
She was alleged to have been murdered in the early hours of that day by Rose, a scaffolder who was said to have targeted her for sex and driven her away from a house party.

She disappeared and her body has never been found.

Mr Perrin told the court that he saw Charlotte in the pub at about 1420 BST on 28 February 2004.

He said she was sitting on the knee of Gus O'Brien - described at the trial as her boyfriend - and "crying a lot".
---

Miss Humphries, 18, told judges she also saw Charlotte upset and crying in the pub on the same day with Gus O'Brien.

She remembered the date because it was the anniversary of her grandfather's death.

She agreed that she and her sister had corresponded with Rose in prison after his conviction.

I am not going to quote anything from below article as it made me fume at first. But anyone feel free to read it. Is he spinning some wheels from jail or is there possibility there is some truth in his claims and he might be innocent?

Thank you for an update. I saw it some time ago and wondered what was the cause of his death. He was 37. Apparently his death was not suspicious and it was not suicide.

I could not find any update after autopsy or their internal investigation though.

Anyway, was just curious but that for me is not as important as where Charlotte's body is still hidden.

I don't have an opinion about Nicholas Rose's guilt or innocence, but I'm interested in the cadaver dog work in the case. On another website I saw an excerpt from a document, Processos Vol. IX, which purports to be a declaration by Martin Grime in support of his work on the Madeleine McCann case: Martin Grime and Eddie and Keela

About the Charlotte Pinkney case, the excerpt from p. 2268 reads:

"CHARLOTTE PINKNEY

Charlotte Pinkney was abducted by an ex-boyfriend and has never been seen since.
An initial search by the EVRD revealed a 'classic' secondary deposition site near to a sighting of the suspect in suspicious circumstances. The investigative team distrusted the dogs opinion until a full forensic search revealed a small button off of the girls clothing in long grass. This evidence was put to the suspect who fully admitted the offence."

From all other reading I understand that Rose never admitted doing anything criminal to Charlotte Pinkney. Is the admitted "offence" simply that Rose was with her for part of that night? If so, the above would be intentionally misleading.

I also find it odd that there's yet another clothing button in the case: it was in a vacuum cleaner supposedly used to clean the car Rose was driving, but it had none of Charlotte's DNA on it.
