ND - Resident In State Hospital Assaulted By Convicted Sex Offender
A resident of North Dakota State Hospital who has the mental capacity of a five year old was sexually assaulted by Rodney Ireland who is a registered sex offender. The poor victim was being housed with violent sex offenders although he himself was not a sex offender. Interesting is that the perp says he takes full responsibility BUT of course goes on to blame the assault on the hospital. He's right in that this poor man should not have been housed in this dangerous conditions, but at the end of the article Ireland in a round about way alludes to his attack as helping the victim to get his ward changed.http://www.jamestownsun.com/articles...0§ion=News

As far as I'm concerned, they can also lock up and throw the keys away for the administrators, state, and all involved who put a severely retarded person in with violent sexual offenders. They're masquerading as decent law abiding people yet allowing such horrible things to happen.

There are many many others placed in just this type of situation. I used to work at a state facility and 1 of the things that was so difficult was how they would put different types of patients together. You would have some with the mentality of a 2 or 3 year old who didn't have any real talking skills and then you'd have someone who was very street smart with charges for molestation etc. We'd watch them like a hawk but it never should be done that way. This mans father needs to be raising he*&, he'd be moved to a safer environment once the state starts to worry about a lawsuit.

Too little too late, right? Vegas Bride I thought that as well that this happens all over. Meanwhile the creep says he sees this poor man passing by on his way to activities and such. Something has to be adressed here. Again it our elderly and our children and our citizens not able to fend for themselves.

This is sad, and unfortunately it is all too common in state hospitals or "civil hospitals" i could run down a list of local ones here in which sex offenders were housed in coed wards, raped patients, etc. It's a disgusting mess. The worst part is, it is covered up by staff at most facilities. There was a case of another mentally retarded girl at a local hospital here who was raped by a known sex offender on a coed ward. The staff knew about his history, as to why he wasn't on an all male ward to begin with, Lord knows.. After the rape, he was transferred to an all male ward and then released to the community a couple months later. There are a lot of horror stories i could tell, having friends that work in the psychiatric fields.
