CIRCUMSTANCES

Benoit was last seen at her family's residence in Creole, Louisiana on July 23, 1992. She has never been heard from again. There is little available evidence concerning her case, but authorities believe Benoit may have chosen to leave of her own accord. She may be in Florida. Her case, which was reclassified from a runaway to endangered missing in 2005, remains unsolved.

From an on line post by Wida Mae's step-sister made in 2003 one might assume that she left home on her own to escape a not so happy situation.

"If Wilda Mae happens to read this I would like to let her know that he has been sober for quite a while now"

As of 11/2006 Her step-sister was still searching for her.

Many posters here may know that my hubby is in several different bands that play in clubs in our area.

Last night there was a "band" discussion that I just happened to um hmm 'over hear' (I don't eavesdrop)

Anyway it seems that one of his bands is going to cover the song Runaway Train by Soul Asylum. So in keeping with the bands original theme for the video I made the following suggestion:

Each show that his band performs we would pick one missing person (starting with those in the original video that have not been recovered), print out thier missing poster and hand them to every patron that enters the club.

We would also do our own version of the video for the press kit that gets sent out to different people when we apply for gigs. (we still need to check with the reps. for soul asylum to see if it is ok to do so)

another idea that got kicked around a bit was that during the time that the band is playing the song we would ask for donations that would then be passed on to various missing person foundations.

Pretty Cajun girl. Sounds more like a classic runaway case than foul play.

Here is a Jane Doe that is being discussed on the Unidentified forum
http://www.doenetwork.org/cases/154ufco.html Her case is also here

(On this link, you may have to go to Coroner and then choose the UID Bodies, but pics of reconstruction are better)
This JD sure looks like Wilda..... Not sure if Wilda would have died her hair blonde, but the coroner states the JD's hair was naturally brown.
Please give me your opinion!
Thanks!
P.S. Here's the link where JD is being discussed http://www.websleuths.com/forums/showthread.php?p=3218597&posted=1#post3218597

I wonder if Benoit's shoulder injury would have been detectable on a skeleton? As for the CO Jane Doe perhaps a DNA comparison with Benoit's relatives would yield results. Jewelry found at the site seem to indicate the victim was into the biker lifestyle, the problem with that is that many runaways end up in such company so the victim may be one of many.

What's also very interesting is that from the UID's Doe Page:

"Other: She may be a runaway from Louisiana."

There was no indication why they might believe this or what led them to this conclusion. But if this is accurate then it's a very good suggestion.

The UID is listed as being 5'8 and Wilda height is listed as being 5feet. I thought the smile of the UID and Wilda looked like a match, but the 8 inches in height really makes me think that the UID is not Wilda. The height on one of the descriptions could be wrong though, it can't hurt to check out....

Chaddylex, I agree with your points. There is a year discrepancy between when she was missing and found. And she went missing at 14. There's a possibility she had a growth spurt right?

I found this:
"The typical girl experiences her pubertal growth spurt at this time. Her fastest growth, called the "peak height velocity," usually occurs at approximately 12 years of age, just before her periods start."

This usually happens a bit earlier, but it appears to be based on menses which occurs at a variety of times for people. Usually women's growth is done by 15, but not necessarily. I grew late is why I mention it. It's not unusual to grow several inches in the span of a year at that age.

I also found, "At their fastest, boys can grow taller by as much as 9cm a year and girls at a rate of 8cm a year." Which is a little over 3 inches so 7" might be on the more extreme end, I just don't think it's enough to rule her out on.

And as you said, those details are often reported inaccurately, which is another possibility.

Just thinking...

I am sending an email out to the ME on this JD, hopefully Ms.Benoit's DNA is in CODIS, making it easier to rule on. If I don't hear back from the ME in about a week, I will fax or email something to Cameron Parish, LA, Sheriff's Ofc. I'll let you all know as soon as I get something.

I received an e-mail back from Douglas County, CO ME, asking me to call, I did, spoke with Wes Riber, an examiner there (very nice man) & he stated they have ruled Ms. Benoit out, her teeth looked very close to their Jane Doe, but her height & weight were no match, their Jane Doe, also was missing her spleen, Ms. Benoit as far as they knew wasn't... I'm back to searching for a match for Ms. Benoit. I hope you all have continued to do that while waiting, as well.... She's out there somewhere.
Just a note: I read on the doe network that Ms. Benoit's clothing when last seen, was a hospital gown, she must've left the hospital sometime during her visit for the shoulder injury.... I'm guessing:confused:

jabott....................was there ever any contact with anyone after her disappearance since she may have run away?

there is no reported correspondance since she has disappeared. But there was rumor that one girl in the area had heard form her but was told not tell tell and to this day she has said nothing. SO I believe this to be false info.

I live fifty miles from where she came up missing and I have never heard this story. I wonder why her family is still not involved? Does anyone have further details on the different theories of what happened?

Whoever "he" is that stopped drinking....must have been responsible for the shoulder injury and who knows else? Sounds to me like she ran from a very abusive situation, but of course I don't know the facts. It does look like her step sister loves her very much and has never given up on her even after all these years. Let's hope Wilda found peace and safety in some little town, maybe even near by. I sure hope so, and I'll pray the two sisters find their way back to each other. God Bless them both!

I know if this was my child I would still be active in trying to find her. Who left her alone after giving her pain medicine and for how long? There is a lack of information and concern about her disappearance and that worries me. It sounds fishy to me. I pray that she is alive and well.
