£1m = $1,954,025.86

Johnny Depp secretly visited Great Ormond Street Hospital yesterday to donate £1 million of his own money to thank staff for saving his daughter's life.

This gift will go a long way. he is an amazing person!

And on November 29, unknown to the public, Depp spent four hours at the hospital telling bedtime stories to patients dressed as Captain Jack Sparrow after having his Pirates Of The Caribbean costume flown over from Los Angeles.

More about Great Ormond Street Hospital: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Ormond_Street_Hospital

The hospital works with the UCL Institute for Child Health, its medical school, and is the largest centre for research into childhood illness outside the United States, and a major international trainer of doctors and nurses. It has the widest range of children's specialists of any UK hospital, and is the largest centre for children's heart or brain surgery, or children with cancer, in the UK. Recent high profile breakthroughs include successful gene therapy for immune diseases, following a decade of research.

What a guy!!! Go, Johnny, Go!

I LOVE JOHNNY DEPP :blowkiss: :blowkiss: :blowkiss: :blowkiss:

And further . . . Disney, which made the Pirates Of The Caribbean films, will also today donate £10million ($19,530,953.37) to Great Ormond Street, which needs to raise £ 170million in five years to redevelop twothirds of the hospital site.

After all of his worldwide success and fortune, he's so down to earth and unpretentious! I would pay to see him read the phone book. My 81 mother and I sat through Sweeney Todd with my daughters because we all love Johnny!

You hit the nail on the head of why I believe he is so successful. Everyone, all ages, all genders, all types, just everyone, loves Johnny Depp. I've never met anyone who doesn't like him.

He is a legend in the making...and off to a good start!
The man's got great karma too...

He seems like a very nice guy. It's good to see people doing whatever they can to help out :)

That is so sweet!!! He seems like such a guinuenly sweet guy... I remember feeling so worried for him and worried about his little girl... there was a while there it was very touch and go - a lot of people would not do what he did (donate the money), but some would - BUT THE BEDTIME STORIES - that shows his character. What a good guy.

I think he was recently voted as the most approachable celebrity out here, by some group running an autograph survey. He is a shining light in an industry that is always plagued by big egos and self-entitlement... he's extremely talented and such a kind person... other celebrities could take a lesson or 2 from him and how he handles life and himself.

I had to chuckle at him going to the hospital as Sparrow, to read bedtime stories to the kids... it's not every day that you hear about a notorious drunk pirate doing hospital rounds. LoL!!!!!!!!!!!!

Also great about Depp:

"Meanwhile, for the third year in a row, Johnny Depp was voted the most gracious and approachable celebrity when fans ask for autographs"

OMG that is my fantasy! ;)

Our whole family is crazy about this man. I made a couple shelves of Jack Sparrow memorbilia for my dh. He's our favorite actor!

OMG that is my fantasy! ;)

He can come tell me a bedtime story anytime. Wow that sounds so inappropriate.... and it is! Hehehehe!!

But for reals, I love Johnny Depp!!! But he really does seem like a good guy! And he's cute to boot!

How cool! Mr Depp is a great actor and not just a pretty face. I saw him interviewed the other day and he has his feet firmly on the ground.
How great is the fact that he was so generous and I bet the kids were just over the moon with his visit.

That is so sweet of him. I bet it made the patients day to hear "Jack Sparrow" telling stories. What a great guy.
