CA - Man rapes, kidnaps girl, flees to Mexico, Ventura
How I hope they find this guy!
5 Feb 08
The FBI and the Ventura Police Department are seeking the public's help to find a man they believe has fled the country with a minor.
Joshua Tafoya, 20, who police said they believe fled from California to Mexico with a minor girl, has been charged federally in the case. California authorities charged Tafoya in December 2007 with child stealing, contributing to the delinquency of a minor and car theft.
The victim is from Oxnard, Calif., but her identity has not been released due to her age and because she is a victim of a sex offense, authorities said.
The victim was involved in a relationship with Tafoya for several months during early 2007, according to police. When the illegal relationship was reported to police, Tafoya was charged with unlawful sex with a minor.
Tafoya was convicted and served a work-furlough sentence. He continued to remain in contact with the victim, investigators said.
Tafoya was released from the Ventura County work furlough program on Dec. 12, 2007. After his release, he allegedly stole a white 2008 Acura from a local dealership, authorities said.
The following day, Tafoya and the victim were reported missing.
The stolen vehicle, a white Acura with license plate No. 6AXX928, was tracked crossing the U.S. border at San Ysidro by Customs Border Protection.
In addition, the victim's family filed a missing persons report with the U.S. Consulate in Tijuana, Mexico.
Relatives and family members said they have not seen or heard from either Tafoya or the victim. The victim took no extra clothes or anything else to school the morning she was reported missing that would indicate she might flee.
Investigators are working with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, which has distributed material to law enforcement in the U.S. and Mexico in an effort to locate Tafoya and the victim.
Tafoya is described as Hispanic, 6 feet tall, weighing 190 pounds with black hair and brown eyes.
Anyone with information in the case is asked to contact the Ventura Police Department, the FBI or their local law enforcement agency. In Los Angeles, the FBI may be contacted at 310-477-6565. Reward money is available. Confidentiality and anonymity is guaranteed, the FBI says.

I wonder if he was born here or in Mexico? If he isn't a Mexican legal and they can find out where they are the bordor patrol and the FBI can take care of the situation. The Bordor Patrol will kick him out of Mexico because he isn't there legally and the FBI will escort him on a plane in handcuffs back to the states and arrest him when they get to CA. Works real well if he isn't a Mexican legal. Hope he isn't.
Obviously the little girl thinks she is in love and wanted to leave with him. That would be my guess. Doesn't make it right as she is only about 14 yrs. What will that little girl do if he turns into someone that she doesn't know and they are in Mexico? Scary place to be so far away from home if things go bad between them. Hope they are found soon and she is alright.

The mother of a missing Oxnard teen told reporters Thursday that she's received little help from law enforcement officials since her daughter disappeared with a 20-year-old Ventura man Dec. 13.
"As a mother, I'm extremely frustrated," said Franciene Black, as she sat next to her attorney, Gloria Allred, during a news conference in Los Angeles.
Police and the FBI say Andrew Joshua Tafoya disappeared with the 15-year-old girl into Mexico seven months after pleading guilty to having unlawful sex with her.
Authorities suspect Tafoya used a stolen car when he left with Chioma Gray on Dec. 13. Tafoya is charged with child stealing, contributing to the delinquency of a minor, vehicle theft and unlawful flight to avoid prosecution.

I hope they find this young girl. Good for Gloria Allred for taking this case. She has very good media connections and can make alot of noise. It sounds a little like the girl went willingly - however at 15 years of age, Tafoya had NO BUSINESS taking her anywhere without her mother's permission. At 15 years of age, a person is rarely capable of sorting out so much emotional/romantic/teenage drama on their own. This child needs her parents!
Prayers that she comes home safe,

A $5,000 reward is being offered for the safe return of an Oxnard teen missing since December.
Police and the FBI say Andrew Joshua Tafoya disappeared with 15-year-old Chioma Gray to Mexico seven months after pleading guilty to having unlawful sex with her.
A private organization, the Carole Sund/Carrington Foundation, is offering the reward for the safe return of Gray.
Tafoya was named in a federal criminal complaint for unlawful flight to avoid prosecution after being charged in December with child stealing, contributing to the delinquency of a minor and car theft, according to the FBI.
A $5,000 reward also will be paid for information leading to Tafoya's arrest and conviction.
Tafoya is suspected of stealing a white 2008 Acura from a local dealership.
The car's license plate is 6AXX928. The car was seen crossing the U.S.-Mexico border at San Ysidro.
Gray's family and friends have not heard from her since she disappeared.
Authorities asked anyone with information on the case to contact the FBI at 310-477-6565 or Ventura police at 339-4400.

My Daughter's Sister-in-Law talked with Chioma Gray in Feb.
They were vacationing on a small island not far from Acapulco
CG was their waitress, and started a conversation with them because they were americans. They saw her picture on America's Most Wanted, and have been in touch with authorites. So yeah, she is OK

Chioma is a beautiful young lady and I hope no harm has come to her.
The way I read the information, this guy was a boyfriend. Her mother must have found out how old he was and she pressed charges. He probably was going to be convicted and have to register as a sex offender. In order to not have that happen and to be able to still see her they fled to Mexico.
I think her mom might have also filed the charges of abduction knowing that her daughter went willingly.
Maybe I read it the wrong way.
I hope she is safe like Carrington said but it would be nice if she let her mom know that.
