Investigators believe the skeletal remains discovered by a land surveyor in the desert north of Horizon City on Thursday are human.
"We think they're human, but we are waiting for the experts to tell us if that's the case," El Paso County Sheriff's Office spokesman Rick Glancey said today.
The land surveyor, whose name was not released, discovered the remains shortly before 3 p.m. Thursday while working in the desert. He immediately notified law enforcement.
The sheriff's office is handling the investigation and has turned over the remains to the medical examiner's office. An autopsy has been ordered, Glancey said.
Glancey said investigators are waiting for autopsy results before releasing more information about this case.
