Investigators believe the skeletal remains discovered by a land surveyor in the desert north of Horizon City on Thursday are human.
"We think they're human, but we are waiting for the experts to tell us if that's the case," El Paso County Sheriff's Office spokesman Rick Glancey said today.

The land surveyor, whose name was not released, discovered the remains shortly before 3 p.m. Thursday while working in the desert. He immediately notified law enforcement.

The sheriff's office is handling the investigation and has turned over the remains to the medical examiner's office. An autopsy has been ordered, Glancey said.

Glancey said investigators are waiting for autopsy results before releasing more information about this case.

Suzanne,

This is the most recent article I have found on this UID. They still don't say how long the remains may have been there.

Sheriff's Office continues investigating skeletal remains
By Tammy Fonce-Olivas / El Paso Times

Investigators with the El Paso County Sheriff's Office are continuing to find evidence linked to the skeletal remains discovered last week by a land surveyor in the desert in far East El Paso.

"We have been out at the site four times and have recovered additional evidence," Rick Glancey, sheriff's office spokesman said today.

Glancey declined to elaborate on the findings.

The land surveyor while working in the desert discovered what authorities believe are human remains shortly before 3 p.m. on Dec. 17. He immediately notified law enforcement authorities.

Investigators turned over the remains to the medical examiner's office. Autopsy results are pending.

Investigators have not said how long they think the skeletal remains were in the desert area north of the Socorro Independent School District administration office, near Eastlake and Interstate 10.

The investigation is continuing, Glancey said.

Skeletal Remains found in Desert (1/17/08) 3:00 PM:

Detectives continue to diligently follow up on the discovery of the skeletal remains. Sheriff's Detectives have been out at the site four times and have recovered additional evidence (I’m not at liberty to discuss what else was discovered) and will work with the Medical Examiner to try and establish a positive identification.

El Paso County Sheriff’s Detectives along with members of the Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue Team have combed an area of ¾ of a mile in diameter searching for additional clues for four days.

Based on mapping the Sheriff's Office has been scouring an area near the intersection of Eastlake and Rojas or approximately the 12600 block of Rojas more than several miles into the desert from the paved roadway.

The El Paso County Sheriff's Office has identified the skeletal remains found Jan. 17 near the intersection of Eastlake and Rojas, north of Horizon City.

The remains have been identified as Alondra Rodriguez, a 21-year-old female who was reported missing by her family in Aug. 2005. The missing-persons case was being handled by the El Paso Police Department.

Next of kin have been notified.

An Oct. 2005 El Paso Times story said police believed Rodriguez was suffering from depression and left her home in the 12100 block of El Greco Circle in the early morning of Aug. 1, 2005 through a window.
