This is a case that always bothered me and I could not find an existing thread on WS. With a tattoo like this you would think that somebody would remember her.

Unidentified White Female Located on October 26, 1991 in Warren City, Knowlton Township, New Jersey.
Cause of death is homicide.
The victim may have been deceased since early October 1991.
Her nickname is Tiger Lady, inspired by her tiger tattoo.

Vital Statistics

  • Estimated age: 17 - 19 years old
  • Approximate Height and Weight: 4'10 - 5'2"; 95 - 110 lbs.
  • Distinguishing Characteristics: Light brown to dirty blonde hair; possibly bleached or dyed. Both of her ears were pierced; her left ear was pierced four times.
  • Dentals: X-rays and dental charts are available.
  • Tattoos: The victim had a tattoo of a crouching Bengal tiger on her left calf, inspiring the nickname Tiger Lady.
  • Clothing: No clothing was found with the victim.

What were the laws back in 1991 concerning tattoo's? My daughter wanted one when we were in New Jersey in 2001 however she was 15 not quite 16 and they wouldn't do one for her because she was too young. The reason why I am mentioning this is because maybe that would give us a better idea of how old this JD was. I also think if pictures of this tattoo were shown around some of the area tattoo parlors maybe some one would recognize it. That is a large tattoo and not a very common one so I would think that should be of some help ID'ing her. Maybe someone should see if the area newspaper's would post the picture in hopes of some one recognizing their work. She could be from the NYC area also. One more thing....tattoo's of this size would be very expensive to have done. I am sure it was back then too.

I'd also like to comment on the Princess Doe case. I have always wondered if it was possible she was seeing some one who worked at one of the horse stables near by. It's been awhile since I researched this but if I remember correctly there were quite a few in the general area. I also think there was a boarding school close to where she was found. I doubt that she attended there but again I wonder if she didn't know someone that did. There are lots of possibilities in this case.

The case is now listed on the NAMUS site. ID: 1593

Following the discussion today about Princess Doe, I started looking for possibles to the Tiger Lady, another female teenaged UID found in New Jersey. And as Nola did with Princess Doe, I broadened my search out several years prior to the UID's death (using DOB as a search criterion instead of age).

Brenda Kay Green caught my attention.

Both Brenda and Tiger Lady are Bleach-Blonde Natural Brunettes with brown eyes.

Aside from all of the vital stats being within range (she would have been 18 at the time of Tiger Lady's death), what catches my attention is that both she and Tiger Lady have slightly cleft chins.

There is a three-year difference between her DLC and Tiger Lady's death. But the circumstances of her disappearance are not inconsistent with a voluntary disappearance or a captivity scenario.

And the tattoo easily could have been made after her disappearance.

Does this look plausible?

BBM above post:
Is is not clear according to this description that her hair was indeed bleached. Bleaching dark hair (shown in one of the MP photos) is evident, to a ME and the untrained eye. This is evident in one of the mp photos but that should have been clear to ME
Distinguishing Characteristics: Light brown to dirty blonde hair; possibly bleached or dyed

The use of the word "possibly" was odd for the reasons that you stated. Either it was bleached, or it was dyed, or it wasn't. But nevertheless, I'll take that as a possible point of correspondence (although I did not add the caveat to my previous comment)

In Brenda's blonde photo, her hair is bleached well beyond "dirty blonde", but there is no reason why three years later, she couldn't have opted for a less extreme bleaching.

That is a mighty crisp fresh looking tattoo.

The "possibly bleached or dyed" makes me wonder if she had the sort of hair that sun-bleaches easily.

:waitasec:That is a reasonable assumption given the time period. Actually, I even suspect the photo of her dark hair is dyed. No logical reason but it just appears too even toned and "flat".

I'll add that the woman in the recon appears to have a broader head at the temples than Brenda, but I've seen other recons compared to the person after they were identified, where the head shape is completely off.

This may be a stretch, but it crossed my mind that Brenda Green is from Alabama, and lived in the Tuscaloosa area. Tuscaloosa is the home of University of Alabama, home of the Crimson Tide.

150 miles from UofA is UofA's rival, Auburn University. What is Auburn's mascot? -- Answer: A tiger.

Brenda was not old enough to go to college, but perhaps in her travels over the three-year interim, she encountered a tattoo artist who does a lot of tiger tattoos for Auburn Univ alumni, and looking through sample books, decided she wanted a tiger tattoo. Not necessarily out of loyalty to Auburn Univ., but because she liked the look of the tattoo.

Sure, maybe it's a stretch :stretch:, but I'm throwing ideas out there.

According to a NYT article from 1993 (link found from her website):
" Finally, in early March, Mr. O'Reilly turned to the Toronto Police, who using the woman's known weight, about 100 pounds, the tint of her skin and hair, drew a new skin over the skull, with its high cheekbones, strong jaw and narrow-set eyes. The results were strikingly different from the police artist's sketch.

The state police made a second version of the Toronto picture, showing the woman with longer, darker hair, with eyes looking ahead and with thinner lips, because lips, along with eye color, are the most uncertain elements in reconstructing a face from a skull, said the Toronto Police Constable, David Sills, who created the original."

So there are two other reconstructions out there, markedly different from the sketch that I am thinking we have seen.

I just received a call-back from Lt. Speirs, and received the following info regarding Tiger Lady and Brenda Green.

His recollection is that they looked at Brenda Green, and ruled her out, although he didn't remember the basis upon which she was ruled out. He's pretty sure that we were talking about the same woman because he recalls that the woman that they looked at was from Alabama. He said that there was info in Brenda's MP case file that she had a tattoo, but it turned out that Alabama LE mistakenly wrote in the casefile that she did have a tattoo, when they should have indicated that they received an inquiry of whether or not she had a tattoo.

He says that about a year after her disappearance, she was picked up in Georgia for prostitution, and nobody realized that she was an MP until after she was released. This is new info that was not available in the MP sites. We now know that she was not killed immediately after her disappearance.

As for Tiger Lady, they have not yet compiled a rule-out list, although they intend to at some point. They do have a few rule-outs, but they are scattered throughout the case file.

He also indicated that after the Brenda Green call-in, they decided to exhume the body and have a DNA profile for her entered in CODIS. This has not yet been completed though.

He also said that the facial reconstruction that we have all seen is the one created by Univ of Toronto. There was a previous recon, but it was very "rudimentary", and of poor quality.

Lt. Speirs confirmed today that Brenda Green was ruled out on dentals.

1974 was the year of the Tiger in the Chinese Zodiac. Heide Dawn Wilbur was born in 74 and disappeared from VT in Feb of 91 (she was a foster child and listed as a runaway) She had a tiger tattoo on her shoulder, she also has a narrow PD (pupillary distance) and though no other tattoos are mentioned on the UID partial decomposition could be a factor. I have to go research some more, but thought I'd mention those leads.

Thanks CarlK for checking into that!

Bump..

is it my imagination or have we not seen the newer computer enhanced reconstructions of Tiger Lady's face?

for what it's worth, she was probably taken there or dumped there from Route 80. Route 46 has traffic lights and "route 94" is not really much of a highway.
