Highway crews spreading salt on interstates in eastern Pennsylvania made a grisly discovery Tuesday -- eight trash bags of body parts.

The bags were discovered at eight places along Interstate 80 and Interstate 380 in the Pocono Mountains, the Pocono Record reported. The first was discovered at about 9 a.m.

Bartal said investigators believe all the parts were from a single body, probably a light-skinned female. A head was found on I-380.

We're not positive on the female portion of it at this point, he said.

It is disturbing to me that our local news had placed that story under "Entertainment/weird news"! WTH?!

This case will be interesting because of Gary Hilton's possible connection to the other man in Florida they found in trash bags. However, I would think this body would have to be recently disposed of or someone should have noticed the bags before now.

Monroe County Distirct Attorney David Christine said the woman's head was found along Interstate 380. Other parts were found along Interstate 80.

It was a state road worker salting Interstate 380 who discovered the first bag.

Seriously.. can you imagine if your were driving and witnessed someone throwing what you thought was trash out of their car only to find this was body parts later? obivously it was a disposal but couldnt have thought it out very well.. since they were so easily discovered. I hope they can identify the victim soon.

If I saw someone throwing trash bags on any highway...I would have their license plate number and be on my cell phone immediately. I do not like litterbugs!!

This person probably did this under the cover of darkness would be my guess. I hope they find out who the victim is soon and can easily track down the person or persons responsible. (I think there might be more than one...because it would be difficult for only one person to toss out trash bags while driving.)

The inhumanity of this just boggles my mind. Why are there so many tales of bodies being desecrated these days? Burned, chopped up, decapitated, put in boxes or dumpsters, or left in the woods. Why are there so many barbarians? I will never get used to it as long as I live. :furious:

I don't think anyone should ever get used to it, ThoughtFox!! If so, we are in BIG trouble!

I think as penalties become stiffer for these creeps...they are going to greater lengths to try to destroy evidence including the bodies. I believe this would account for the rise in the things you mentioned.

Around where I live, it's not that uncommon to find black garbage bags along the sides of some highways/main roads. Usually it's because they are left there to be picked up after people have picked up trash along the sides of the road. Maybe the same thing is done in PA, and the person responsible thought the bags would be picked up by whoever it is that picks them up?

It is becoming to common to read these stories, one after the other, of women being brutally murdered and tossed into the trash or the woods.

Circumstances of Disappearance

Karen, who shared a home with her brother, John, in Independence Township, Beaver County, PA, was last heard from by her brother at about 8pm, Sunday, March 11, 2007 when she called him on his cell phone. He wasn't at home when he got her call, but knew that the call meant she'd be taking money she shouldn't be taking and heading off to the Mountaineer Racetrack & Casino in Chester, WV. A mutual friend confirmed that Karen had gone to the casino. The friend reported that he'd seen Karen withdrawing money from an ATM at the casino at about 11pm. A casino official also told John that Karen had used her Player's Club card about 20 minutes later. Additionally, someone used Karen's credit card to make a $60 charge at the casino just before 2am.

She was last seen, on video surveillance cameras, leaving the casino at about 4am, March 12. The cameras also showed that Karen did not interact with anyone while she was playing the slots, nor did she interact with anyone as she was leaving. Cameras do not show her at her vehicle, but both Karen and her car have disappeared.

Someone accessed her cell-phone voicemail at around 4:30am. That signal ran through a tower in Steubenville, OH. There is no way to know if it was Karen, or someone else, who accessed the voicemail.

There have been no further activities on her cell-phone or credit cards since she disappeared.

The Mountaineer Casino is about 30 miles west of Independence Twp, Beaver County. It also lies just across the Ohio River from East Liverpool, OH. With the possibility of foul play crossing state lines, the FBI is also involved in the search for Karen. On Wednesday, December 12, 2007, crews from Independence Twp Police and Hancock County Sheriff's Office launched another search for her. Some officers searched on foot and a helicopter was used for an aerial search. The search was concentrated on the New Manchester, WV area, which is just over the line from Beaver County, PA. No sign of Karen or her car were found.

A woman whose dismembered body was found in garbage bags along two highways in the Poconos suffered ''multiple violent injuries, any of which caused her death,'' authorities said Wednesday after an autopsy.

They said it's a homicide case but wouldn't be more specific about how the woman died.

Though her identity is still a mystery, more has come to light about her physical characteristics since her remains were found Tuesday. Police said she was white and had dark hair with some gray mixed in. She was also described as heavy-set and about 5 feet 7 inches tall.


The woman's remains were found at eight locations along a 15-mile stretch of the two interstates, primarily in Monroe County. A piece of her torso was found in a bag along I-380 in Covington Township, Lackawanna County.

State police investigators hope to develop a sketch of the victim to show the public. ''A lot of that depends on the autopsy and what they come up with,'' Mrochko said.

Monroe County Coroner David Thomas wouldn't elaborate on the ''multiple violent injuries'' statement about the autopsy findings. Trooper Robert Sebastinelli said authorities aren't saying more because they want ''to protect the integrity of the investigation.''

Now we have something to go on as far as missing person cases. However, if they have enough to put together a sketch...I would have to assume there wasn't much decomp and she would have been killed very recently. She might not have been reported as missing or not on any sites.

I wouldn't go as far to say she wasn't too badly decomposed because they can do a sketch of her. In several cases the remains were badly decomposed. One recent case was Baby Grace(Riley Sawyers).

So how long do you figure she could have gone unnoticed in bags strewn along the highways? I will just be surprised if this woman was missing more than a few days to a couple of weeks at the most.

Maybe she wasn't disposed of right away? Who knows.
