GA - Thomas Spell, 16, Telfair County, Feb 2008

    http://www.walb.com/Global/story.asp?S=7826479&nav=5kZQ

    5 Feb 08

The Telfair County Sheriff's office is dragging the Ocmulgee River searching for a missing Fitzgerald teen who disappeared Saturday night.
Sixteen-year-old Thomas Spell better known as T. J. and two friends had gone camping on Boney Ferry Landing Saturday.

The friends went to town to get something to eat and when they returned T. J. wasn't at the campsite.

They returned to Fitzgerald on Sunday and when they realized he hadn't come home, they went back to the landing and found his vehicle in the river.

Spell has dark blonde hair and brown eyes.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Telfair County Sheriff's Office.

This is odd. You would think he would have gone into town to get something to eat with his friends.

"We immediately began to search. About one 1:00 PM Sunday we did locate a vehicle in the river, a 1995 X-90 Suzuki. There was no one in it," said Williamson.

Did the car have the roof on it? I had to google it, as first i thought they were referring to a dirtbike or quad, i've never heard of the car model before.
Here's a picture of what it looks like:

It's a very very small "suv" similiar to the Suzuki Sidekick. After reading his myspace profile, i've very surprised in his choice of vehicle. If they were going offroading with 4 wheelers, i'm guessing the other boys are the ones that towed them to their spot.
Something reeks to the high heavens about this story, and i think these 2 boys know something. They go to get food leaving the Spell boy to watch their stuff (guessing they mean the 4 wheelers and gear) which is all not unusual, until they arrive back find only the Spell boy and his vehicle missing. Later his vehicle is found in the river.
How fast does that river run?

My 17 year old doesn't get to drive his choice of vehicle. He has to drive what we can afford car insurance on.

Why is this 16 year old camping alone with just friends?? Or am I just an overprotective mean mother, that would not allow her kid to go there without adult supervision?
I hope he is found soon!

I think it depends on where you are raised. Country boys I know are raised to hunt, fish, and camp so it is more a lifestyle than just a party to them. However, the party usually happens anyway. Parents who have raised them with respect and with common sense seem to trust their kids to handle a night of camping. (Now...would I do it?! Not a chance!! I don't trust teenagers when they are sitting in my living room! )

I hope they find him soon. It does worry me that his vehicle was in the water. I wonder if he was playing around trying to four wheel through the water?

"After finding Spells hadn't returned home, the teenagers noticed tire marks veering off the dirt road leading to the landing near a sharp curve, Williamson said.
"It's a 15- to 20-foot drop off into the river," he said."

Update somewhat. He was camping and 4 wheeling with another boy and a girl. They went to get food while leaving him to watch a quad that was there. They left for food at midnight and returned around 3am/daybreak. I wonder if something angered him about them being gone for so long that he attempted a crazy offroad stunt he normally wouldn't have done, especially at night when visibility is limited.
