CA - John Ritter Wrongful Death Suit, Los Angeles, 2003

    http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,330344,00.html

GLENDALE, Calif. — A lawyer for John Ritter's family told a jury Monday that he would show doctors caused the actor's death by an improper diagnosis and substandard treatment.

"What you'll hear, ladies and gentleman, is that ... they did everything wrong," attorney Moses Lebovits said in his opening statement at the trial in Los Angeles County Superior Court.

Ritter died of a tear in the aorta, known as an aortic dissection, on Sept. 11, 2003, at Providence St. Joseph Medical Center in Burbank.

Comic actor John Ritter’s widow says a wrongful death lawsuit going to trial Monday is more about seeking accountability and educating the public about the condition that killed him than the $67 million in damages she is seeking from two doctors.

“I’m asking for responsibility to be taken and recognition to be brought to this problem,” Amy Yasbeck, an actress herself, told TODAY co-host Meredith Vieira in an exclusive interview that aired Monday.

-- Actor John Ritter was a devoted family man who was thrilled to be working on another successful television series so many years after "Three's Company" left the air, fellow actor Henry Winkler testified Wednesday during trial of a $67 million wrongful death suit by Ritter's family against two doctors.
"Every thought that John had included his children," said Winkler, who was on the set for a taping of "8 Simple Rules for Dating My Teenage Daughter" on Sept. 11, 2003, the day Ritter died at age 54. "Every conversation we had somehow wrapped around his children."
Winkler, who is best known for his role as Fonzie on the ABC television series "Happy Days," which aired from 1974-84, said he originally met Ritter in 1975

That's exactly what Ritter's wife said she planned to do - donate the money to educate the public.

She was previously awarded 10 million dollars from the suit she filed against the hospital.

Doctors cleared in actor Ritter's death

GLENDALE, California (AP) -- A California jury has cleared a cardiologist and a radiologist of negligence in the diagnosis and treatment of actor John Ritter.

Ritter died of a torn aorta in 2003.

The jurors found that Ritter was advised by the radiologist to follow up with treatment by a physician, but Ritter didn't follow the order. The radiologist had completed a body scan on him two years earlier.
