OH - Darryl L Walters, Cherry Fork, Portsmouth

In 2004 a body was found in a wooded area in Adams County Ohio. She had never been reported as missing. The body was later identified as Melinda Powell.

Darryl Walters was arrested in Indiana for drunk driving. When his DNA was put into the database, a match came up on DNA found on Melinda Powell's body. When police interviewed Walters, he allegedly admitted to the murder and to two other murders as well. Those victims names have not been released.

Be sure to take a look at the comments on this article. IMO at least one is a threat.

Walters admits to other murders; Two women in addition to Melinda Powell

I don't see the threat but it's sad we live in a world where I tell my friend about this and he says "Oh, he only killed 3 people, that is not a serial killer."

Three women are dead and outside of Ohio we probably would not have even be aware of it had you not posted about this.

    Thank you.

The area involved seems to be the Portsmouth, Ohio area. The geographical area involved is weird though. The alleged murderer's address is listed as Cherry Fork, Ohio (quite a distance away from Portsmouth.) The murders allegedly occurred in Portsmouth, Ohio and Walters was arrested for drunk driving in Indiana.

Is it always standard to take DNA samples for a drunk driving arrest?

He was arrested in the county where I live. It didn't say what town he was arrested in in the article, but I am curious to know.

In the second article linked here, it says DNA was taken at the correctional facility. To my knowledge Elkhart county does not routinely take the DNA of drunk driving arrests.

If it's a felony, I think they do.

This link lists the other girls murdered.

They say Walters has confessed to killing Aleshia Frazee, Melinda Powell, and Tamara Smith. The three murders happened between 2001 & 2004.

It's a little too close to home isn't it? I don't live that far from it either.

This guy lived a bunch of places it looks like. Trail Creek, Indiana. Michigan, Indiana. Sciotoville, Ohio. Then Portsmouth as well. One of the fine people who made comments under that one article if that's a nickname she is connected to him and she lived in South Shore, Kentucky. He could have been a ton more places as well I bet. Meanwhile now that he confessed to more murders I wonder why they ain't running their mouths saying there has to be more to the story?

Here's a connection to him living in Kentucky or whoever the female is connected to him anyway who lived in South Shore, Kentucky. Poor Aleisha Frazee was from South Shore, Kentucky and her remains found in Ohio. A link to Aleisha's mom speaking out.http://dispatch.com/live/content/loc...i.html?sid=101

Thanks for the info Filly. IIRC South Shore is directly across the river from Portsmouth. I am not sure about Sciotoville, but I believe it is close to Portsmouth.

So I wonder why he left Indiana? And then he moved to Portsmouth and killed a few women, then moved to Cherry Fork. My thought would be that they need to do some checking on any missing/murdered in the areas he lived in previously and presently. According to the known murders there was one in 2001 and two in 2004. There are bound to be others.

Aleisha Frazee's mother is saying that she believes other people and drugs may have been involved in her daughter's death.
