GUILTY CA - Jamiel Shaw, 17, shot to death, Los Angeles, 2 March 2008

Unbelievably sad and senseless.

This is so sad, he had some serious prospects for his future.

What a senseless act. This boy was a role model for all his piers and he was gunned down, why? So now we can pay for these gang bangers to rot in jail on our tax money. He was going to be something and come out of there but stupid people had to stop that from happening. My friend has a saying on her myspace. It says God must like stupid people because he sure made a lot of them. I had to laugh at that because it seems so true.

All because he wouldn't answer them, that's just crazy! Is that how they get new members?

I'd be in big trouble there. If someone asked me where I was from, I'd just say "West Virigniia!" Yikes!

A 23-year-old gang member who shot and killed a high school football star he mistook for a rival gangster in 2008 should be put to death, a Los Angeles jury decided Wednesday.

Jurors reached the verdict after about a week of testimony in the penalty phase of the trial for Pedro Espinoza, a member of the 18th Street gang...

Prosecutors said Shaw was killed execution-style because he was a young black male carrying a red Spider-Man backpack, which led Espinoza to believe he was a Bloods gang member.

The same jury earlier this month convicted Espinoza of first-degree murder in Shaw's death and found true special allegations that he acted as part of a gang and personally discharged a firearm, making him subject to the death penalty.
