After three days of searching, authorities were unable to find a Riverside man whose unoccupied fishing boat was found floating on Diamond Valley Lake earlier this week.

Metropolitan Water District closed the massive lake entirely on Wednesday and Thursday, as well as a portion of it Friday so Riverside County Sheriff's Department divers could look for the man.

Divers searched from dawn to dusk the first two days and until 2:30 p.m. Friday when the decision was made to call off the search, authorities said.

Nothing suspicious was found during the three-day search, sheriff's Investigator Jerry Franchville said.

Investigators have contacted family of the boat's owner, John Wanamaker, 53, and confirmed that he is missing, Franchville said Friday.

Wanamaker is white, 5 feet 11 inches tall, 230 pounds with gray hair and blue eyes, authorities said.

The last time he was heard from was about 3:40 p.m. Tuesday when he was believed to be fishing on the lake, Franchville said.

About an hour later is when someone spotted the empty boat floating on the northwest portion of the lake.

Franchville said no evidence of foul play was found.

Investigators ask that anyone with information about Wanamaker's whereabouts call the Hemet Sheriff's Station at (951) 791-3400.
