Details of Disappearance

Fravel moved to Las Vegas, Nevada after graduating high school and got an apartment and a job at a fast food restaurant. In June 1986, her mother sent her money so she could come home to Rancho Cordova, California to visit. Fravel never arrived in California, however. When authorities checked her apartment in Las Vegas, they found her two kittens had been left without food and were starving. She has never been heard from again. Fravel is described as a caring pet owner who would not have willingly left her kittens without food. She never picked up her last paycheck from work. Foul play is suspected in her case, which remains unsolved.

22-years-ago, Amanda Fravel left the downtown Las Vegas area to run some errands and hasn't been seen since. She came to Las Vegas to start over and there hasn't been a trace of her since 1986.

Metro detective Pat Febbraro has dusted off Amanda's missing persons file after getting a call from law enforcement in Indiana. A skull and some bones were found there in 1996, but recently a possible match to Fravel showed up in a national crime database.

Vital Statistics

Estimated age: 20-30 years old.
Approximate Height and Weight: 5'2" - 5'4" (64.2 est); 120-126 lbs.
Distinguishing Characteristics: Light brown/red shoulder length hair; unknown eye color. Freckles. Very petite.
Scars, Marks: She had a round, dime-size scar, 1.5 cm circular in shape, on her right knee; 2.3 cm scar mid line on abdomen, above the naval; 1.2 cm scar on the top of her right wrist. Silicone breast implants.
Skeletal Findings: A right hip fracture that had healed. There are indications that she had had plastic surgery on her nose. She may have been in an automobile accident before - she seemed to have facial reconstruction and possibly damage to her hips which had healed previous to her demise. Antemortem trauma noted with the iliopubic and ischiopubic rami depressed posteriorly.
Clothing: She was not wearing any clothes nor jewelry when she was discovered; however, there was a 1/2-inch wide ring mark on her left ring finger.
Medical Conditions: She was 3 months pregnant.
Fingerprints: Available
Dentals: No dental work, perfect teeth. All four wisdom teeth extracted. Teeth #1,16,17 and 32 not seen, may be antemortem loss or congenital absence.
DNA: Available in CODIS.

Case History

The victim's nude body was found weighted down in Lake Pontchartrain by a fishermen just east of the Interstate 10 twin spans and about 50 yards from the north shore June 19, 1986.

A plastic bag was placed over her face, secured with gray duct tape and a 22-pound weight tied to her neck. She had suffered numerous stab wounds to her facial area as well.

Detectives think she might have been married because of markings indicating she had worn a ring on her left hand.
Based on information from meteorologists and marine biologists, detectives concluded the body likely was dumped in the lake between Bayou Lacombe and the Rigolets Pass.

An autopsy revealed the woman died of asphyxia a day or two before the body was discovered.

Detectives tried to identify the woman through her silicone breast implants. But the implants did not have serial numbers, and detectives were unable to trace them to the doctor who performed the surgery.
She is believed to not be local to the area.

Las Vegas has a website of unsolved homocides and there are many women/teens that where murdered in the 70's to early 90's. Alot of simularities also. Some could possibly be attributed to mob/casino but many where in their apartments or on a walk in the Henderson area. First thought to me is that many of these could be related. Amanda Fravel was last seen in downtown LV and that is close to Henderson.

Was anymore ever found out about this? I can't find any information on breast implants for Amanda Fravel, but there are several matches on other data.

Circumstances:
Mandy left her apartment on South 3rd Street in downtown Las Vegas on the evening of June 13, 1986 to visit her boyfriend. Mandy had planned to go to the Boulder Highway and Desert Inn to pick up her paycheck from Taco Bell. Employees of the Taco Bell stated Manyi had never arrived to pick up her check.

Mandy’s mother had sent travel fare for her to come home for a visit to Rancho Cordova, Sacramento County, CA. When Mandy failed to arrive in Rancho Cordova, CA a check was made to her apartment that only turned up (2) starving kittens. Mandy was an animal lover whom would have never left her kittens without food.

Mandy did not have transportation and hitchhiked often.

Mandy was reported missing June 26th, 1986 almost 2 weeks after she was last seen.

A possible sighting of Mandy was reported in 1988 a store clerk carded a woman buying alcohol he recognized the name on her ID. The sighting was never confirmed.

Yes.. they say since im not the one who filed it . I was only 16 at the time so of course i didnt file it. Its just crazy. Ive filed a FOIA but still haven't heard a thing back.
