Missing on the Big Isle

Willie Dennis Eriksson of Hilo is described as Caucasian, 5-foot-9, 165 pounds with blue eyes, short gray or partially graying hair and a goatee.
He has a scar on his chest from childhood heart surgery and two tattoos -- one of the grim reaper on his right forearm, and a girl with a surfboard on one calf muscle.
Eriksson was last seen during the evening of Nov. 7, 2007, at Hirano Store in Glenwood. He was 42 at the time.
Eriksson's mother, Anna-Greta Eriksson of Malibu, Calif., said her son is of Italian and Swedish decent and is a Swedish citizen. He is the son of the late jazz saxophonist Sal Nistico. Although police could trace no employment, Ms. Eriksson said her son is a long-time carpenter.
"I don't want to fear the worst because it hurts too much," she said.
Anna-Greta Eriksson said that police had hoped to administer polygraph tests to several of Eriksson's acquaintances, but all refused through their attorneys.
"Why would somebody refuse a lie detector test if they had nothing to hide?" she asked. Although not prohibited by statute in Hawaii, the state's courts have so far rejected polygraph results on the basis of unreliability.
Eriksson said that anyone with leads on her son's whereabouts can call her directly at (310) 359-2950
Anyone with information on any of these missing persons is asked to call Detective Kelley Matsumoto at 961-2380 or the police non-emergency line at 935-3311. Those who prefer to remain anonymous may call Crime Stoppers at 961-8300.

Too bad they don't know the person who gave him the ride from the convenience store. Seems like that was the last time he was seen. I feel terrible for his mom....all these years later and she still doesn't know what happened to her son.

Skeletal remains, weapon found in Puna

http://www.khon2.com/2013/06/04/skeletal-remains-weapon-found-in-puna/

Big Island Police are investigating the discovery of skeletal remains in Puna.

On May 24, police responded to a report of skeletal remains in a forested area near the 14-mile marker of Route 130 in Pahoa.

Detectives and evidence specialists responded to the area and found a partial set of human skeletal remains. Detectives also recovered a weapon located nearby.

...

Police recovered identification that was found with the remains, but will rely on DNA for a positive identification.

These remains were located right in the vicinity of where Willie Eriksson was last seen.
