Who knows, Philamena. This is more on this family. This murderer is the son of this young girls father. They feel bad for him and allow him to live in their basment and he murders his cousin.http://www.pressofatlanticcity.com/1...ry/111277.html

I wonder what removing the pets were about? It sounds like the family called Animal Control. I admit I don't know why the animals were removed. I just hope it wasn't because they belonged to the loser cousin. The animals didn't do anything wrong.

A search warrant was obtained about 10 p.m. and the Ocean County Sheriff's Department Criminal Investigation Unit entered to gather evidence. Detectives followed. Animal Control was called at 10:30 p.m. to remove unspecified pets from the home, Mastronardy said.

Is there any word on a motive?
Maybe animal control was called if he had some pet reptiles (snakes or lizards) some are popular with young men nowadays..
