Abuse of Power/Sexual Coercion By Immigration

This is extremely shameful, to say the least. Seems like it might be the tip of the iceberg.

    From the New York Times

"No problems so far, the immigration agent told the American citizen and his 22-year-old Colombian wife at her green card interview in December. After he stapled one of their wedding photos to her application for legal permanent residency, he had just one more question: What was her cellphone number? The calls from the agent started three days later. He hinted, she said, at his power to derail her life and deport her relatives, alluding to a brush she had with the law before her marriage. He summoned her to a private meeting. And at noon on Dec. 21, in a parked car on Queens Boulevard, he named his price — not realizing that she was recording everything on the cellphone in her purse.“I want sex,” he said on the recording. “One or two times. That’s all. You get your green card. You won’t have to see me anymore.”

Please tell me that you are not suggesting or in any way implying this woman (or for that matter any other woman that the creep sexually blackmailed) had "diseases/STIs (like bodylice)" just because they are not "American citizens."

No, I am not! I am saying *HE* has diseases and is spreading them! If he's willing to sexually blackmail women, then he probably also is *VERY* promiscious, and cheats on his wife/girlfriend! (With citizens, non-citizens, doesn't matter, every time he screws around is another round of Russian Roulette, another chance for him to pick up SOMETHING to pass along!) You misjudged me! *hmph*

    Thanks for the clarification.

I am glad this guy was caught. I wonder how many times he has gotten away with this. So many immigrants are terrified of deportation. As many of you know my husband is fighting an immigration case right now. We had a bad week but it is getting better. We had court on Tuesday for the false ID and were told by our attorney that the charges would be dropped but that the states attorney had called immigration to detain my husband. Right there my husband grabbed his chest and fell to the floor with a seizure. It was one of the scariest moments in my life. He was taken to the hospital by ambulance where they said it was just a reaction to bad news. Our lawyer had convinced them to call off the detainers. We had to go straight to chicago to talk to our immigration attorney then. He called immigration to see if he could walk my husband in so they would not be hunting for him. They agreed to take him the next day, Wednesday. We were in the immigration office on Wednesday in Chicago. Luckily, well I should say through a lot of prayer, they did not take my husband into custody and he was given a court date, which is what we needed so badly. They could have kept him until I could have bonded him out but all of the people there were very compassionate. They are overwhelmed and over stressed. I saw a woman paying 13,000 bond to get a family member out. I saw an Asian man rocking and crying. As we were going through our own trials it was overwhelming to look around and see all these people in the same boat of fear and confusion. We had to pay another 5000 to our immigration attorney to fight the case in court. We are now in upwards of 20,000 to keep my husband in this country with his children and myself. I hate it when people take advantage of the vulnerable.

When I read this story yesterday, it brought me to tears...
Imthemom, I hope things work out for you quickly. I think that too many people forget that the US is a nation of immigrants!
While my mother's family came over on the Mayflower, other parts of her family came from Ireland and Germany in the 1800's. My father's family came here in the 1890's. Most Americans have a similar background.

Thanks Native New Yorker. I think exactly the same thing. My father is from Mexico but my mother is American and her ancestors go back to Native Americans and Hungarian. I think that is what makes America so great is the diversity of so many cultures coming together as one.

    imthemom,

Would you welcome a PM from an equally stressed out chick? We have a great deal in common at the moment and well, I'm looking for someone who understands.

This article makes my blood boil. How many women has this slime done this to? I certainly hope he gets more than a slap on the writs. IMHO, any time a person in a position of power uses it for sexual misconduct, they should face jail time. If the object of the misconduct is a child, life in prison buddy. I wonder, can we pick a country at random and deport him there? Just throw a dart at the map and say "enjoy your new life in Greenland, pal."
