March 26, 2004 -- A face-to-face confrontation between a Brooklyn science teacher and 15-year-old student turned bloody yesterday when the teacher bit his pupil on the nose, cops and school officials said.
Bryant Murphy, a tenured city teacher, was conducting a class in a science lab at Middle School 117 on Willoughby Avenue in Bedford-Stuyvesant when he and the student - whose name is being withheld - got into a shouting match at 11:45 a.m., cops said.

The student had earlier left the class without permission, angering Murphy. He and Murphy began arguing soon after the teen returned to the lab, said Department of Education spokeswoman Margie Feinberg.

Murphy asked the unruly student to sit down and was ignored. He then told him to leave the classroom and the student refused, enraging the teacher, authorities said.

The two then got in each other's faces, shouting expletives, cops said.

Another teacher heard the noise and went into the classroom to separate the pair, but couldn't pry them apart, so she left to get help.

By the time she came back, Murphy had already chomped on the boy's nose, causing a small cut, police said.
