Mohamad Kajouji says his daughter Nadia was likely in distress at the time of her disappearance.
Kajouji says he learned this in a meeting with Ottawa Police Chief Vern White and the lead investigator working on his daughter's case.
"I honestly believe either she run away somewhere to the other side of Ottawa or she's buried here somewhere under the snow and until this snow melts that's the only way we can find answer," Kajouji told CTV News.

    Where is Nadia Kanouji?-Ottawa, Canada

    http://www.cbc.ca/canada/ottawa/stor...ji-080326.html

The father of missing Carleton University student Nadia Kajouji says police have been too quick to rule out foul play in his daughter's case.
Mohamed Kajouji met with Ottawa police Chief Vern White Tuesday and expressed concern about how the investigation into his 18-year-old daughter's disappearance is being handled.

Nadia Kajouji has been missing since March 9 but police have repeatedly said that they have no reason to suspect foul play.
According to Kajouji, police are assuming she could have hurt herself because she seemed unhappy.
"That's wrong for anybody to assume that," said Kajouji.
"My daughter would never hurt herself. I still believe that."
During the hour-long meeting, White was understanding and clarified some miscommunications about when the police began their investigation, Mohamed Kajouji said.
Mohamed Kajouji is now trying to hire a private investigator to look for his daughter. He is offering a $50,000 reward for her safe return.
Nadia Kajouji was last reported seen on March 9 in her dormitory at Carleton University. At the time she was upset after breaking up with her boyfriend

    Found deceased?

    http://www.canada.com/calgaryherald/...a-85b3eb215bb6

    21 April 08

A dead woman was recovered from the Rideau River near Carleton University on Sunday, possibly the body of 18-year-old Nadia Kajouji, who has been missing 40 days.

"I believe in my heart it's her," said Mohamad Kajouji, father of the missing student, from his Brampton, Ont., home.

There had been prior evidence that Nadia had been taking antidepressants, struggling with school and undergoing counselling. Her family had said she wrote about killing herself in a lengthy conversation with an American in an online chat the day she disappeared.

    Man allegedly coaxed Canadian's suicide

OTTAWA -- In her final MSN conversation, a male nurse posing as a teenage girl coaxed Nadia Kajouji to hang herself on webcam while he watched. Minnesota police are close to laying charges against the man, in his late 30s, St. Paul Police confirmed yesterday.

"In a case that will test the reach of suicide laws into Internet chat rooms, a former Minnesota nurse has been charged with aiding the 2008 suicide of Ottawa university student Nadia Kajouji.

William Melchert-Dinkel, 47, a married father of two, was charged by Minnesota state prosecutors Friday with aiding the suicides of Ms. Kajouji and Briton Mark Drybrough, two of “dozens” of suicide attempts he's alleged to have encouraged in online chat rooms where he posed as a woman.

He claims to have done it for the “thrill of the chase,” and made a suicide pact with Ms. Kajouji, urging her to kill herself by jumping into a river, which she later did, court documents allege."

    Suicide predator should face justice

TORONTO - Far away in Minnesota, the Internet predator charged with counselling Nadia Kajouji to commit suicide is fighting to have his confession tossed and himself declared mentally incompetent.
But at least the wheels of justice are in motion.
What Marc Kajouji doesn't understand is why only the American judicial system is proceeding with the disturbing case when his sister was a Carleton University student from Brampton. "I can't believe it's been 21/2 years since she passed and still nothing's been done by Ottawa Police," Kajouji says. "Why are the police here taking so long? What's their reluctance? It doesn't make any sense and it's offensive to Canadians."

Judgment near for man said to encourage suicides

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -- Once a week, Deborah Chevalier makes the short trip from her home in Canada to the cemetery where her daughter is buried, tenderly clears the snow from her grave and sits down to remember.

It's a way to stay close to her Nadia, who drowned herself in 2008, believing she had entered into a suicide pact with a female nurse online. But prosecutors say Nadia Kajouji was actually communicating with William Melchert-Dinkel, a Minnesota man and former nurse who had no intention of killing himself but enjoyed preying on depressed people, telling police he did it for the "thrill of the chase."

The nearly three-year legal pursuit of Melchert-Dinkel moves closer to a conclusion Thursday, when a judge hears his request to waive his right to a jury trial. Melchert-Dinkel is still pleading not guilty, but he's not disputing the facts against him and will let a judge issue a verdict based on evidence in the court record.

U.S. man guilty of encouraging Ontario university student's suicide

A Minnesota man relentlessly pushed a depressed and vulnerable 18-year-old Carleton University student in online chats to kill herself and contributed to her suicide, a judge ruled Tuesday.
William Melchert-Dinkel, 48, a former nurse, was found guilty of encouraging Nadia Kajouji, from Brampton, Ont., and Mark Drybough of Coventry, England to commit suicide.

I don't think it is possible for local police to lay charges in such assisted suicide cases when the assisting party is located in a different jurisdiction. If I recall correctly there have been precedents that resulted in perpetrators being charged in their own county or state rather than where the "suicided" person lived. These were US cases but given the nature of the Internet it is likely that this falls under international laws and treaties.

In this particular case the death occurred in Canada but the criminal act (assisting suicide) that may have lead to it was committed in Minnesota and thus, prosecuted under state laws that apply in that state.

What sickens me in this case is that this man posed as someone else in order to entice suicide. Would the victim have killed herself is she knew she was being urged by a middle-aged male with whom she probably would not have felt the same kinship as with a girl her own age? Unfortunately posing as someone you're not on the net is not illegal in itself unless it's part of a criminal act directly linked to one's identity (i.e. fraud), which won't apply here.

Sentencing today for U.S. man who encouraged Brampton teen to kill herself

William Melchert-Dinkel, 48, was convicted in March of two counts of aiding suicide. Under state law, he faces a maximum penalty of 15 years in prison and a $30,000 fine for each count, but worksheets prepared by probation officers as part of the presentencing report point to much less — and presume that a prison sentence would be stayed.
