The family of Tashina Cheyenne Vaughn General issued an emotional plea for her safe return home at a Thursday morning press conference at Grand River Polytechnic in Ohsweken.

“We just want to know that you’re safe,” Norma General, Tashina’s grandmother, said fighting back tears.

Surrounded by family members, General repeatedly pleaded for Tashina to call home and for anyone who may have seen her to call police.

Tashina, 21, has been missing since Jan. 22.

I live in Ontario and have never heard of this missing woman until right now. Thank you. Why is this being ignored by most people and media outlets? Over 500 Native Canadian Women are missing and here is another beautiful young woman who is pregnant and missing. Unbelievable.

The search for a young pregnant mother who has been missing from Six Nations for nine weeks has been ramped up with the involvement of an OPP canine unit and a helicopter.
Tashina Cheyenne Vaughn General, 21, was reported missing from Six Nations on Jan. 22 from Chiefswood Road and Fourth Line in Ohsweken. Last week, Six Nations police circulated a poster with a photo of the missing woman. This week, the OPP joined in the search with a canine unit and a flyover of the territory by a helicopter equipped with an infrared device that they hoped to use Wednesday.
On Tuesday, firefighters and police searched the banks of the Grand River and searchers also moved through a wooded area near the spot General went missing.
"All we can say is that her disappearance is completely out of character for her at this point," said Six Nations Deputy Chief Rocki Smith.
This morning, Six Nations police and the Native Women's Association of Canada will hold a news conference about General's disappearance. The woman's family is expected to be present.
The conference is designed to provide details of General's disappearance, to raise awareness about missing native women and to get the public involved in the search.

Beverley Jacobs, president of the Native Women's Association of Canada, is Tashina's cousin.

"I have been following stories like this for years but this time I'm personally involved," said Jacobs, who has been trying to put the public spotlight on a growing problem of missing native women.
"I'd never thought it would ever affect me," she said. "We just want to know that she's safe."

Six Nations police say provincial police will conduct an air search today for a 21-year-old pregnant mother missing since Jan. 22.

Tashina Cheyenne General was last seen in the village of Ohsweken on the Six Nations reserve south of Brantford.

A $500 reward has been posted and posters of the young woman have been distributed, but there has been no sign of her.

The search for a missing Six Nations woman has come to a heartbreaking end.

Forensic testing and an autopsy have determined the human remains found on Six Nations Friday are those of Tashina General.

General, 21, had been missing since Jan. 22. She was pregnant at the time of her disappearance. According to her death notice, she planned to name her unborn baby Tucker.

Her remains were discovered in a shallow grave on property off Chiefswood Road, near Indian Line, by a police dog during an investigation by Six Nations police and the OPP.

Kent Owen Hill, 20, was arrested in North Bay on Monday by Six Nations Police and brought back to Six Nations. He was to appear in court in Brantford on Tuesday.

General, 21, was killed by external neck compression, police said.

A Six Nations man who strangled his pregnant girlfriend and buried her body in a shallow grave behind his parents’ home has been sentenced to life in prison with no chance of parole for 15 years...

The judge did not find Hill a credible witness — he testified in his own defence during the eight-day trial — and was also not convinced the 23-year-old lacrosse star showed remorse in his killing of General on Jan. 22, 2008, at his parents’ home near Chiefswood Road and Indian Townline. He also said Hill’s lies to police and efforts to cover up the murder by writing a letter to General’s mother and signing it with Tashina’s name were “cold calculated acts of evil” that were “clumsy attempts to protect his reputation.”

He killed her after she threatened to reveal he was the father of the child she was carrying. An ultrasound test had determined the child was a boy; General had decided to name him Tucker. DNA analysis confirmed Hill was the father and court heard General was about four months’ pregnant.
