OR - Louis Alfred Turner, 61, Bend, April 2008
5 April 08
Pilot Butte was closed to visitors Saturday as teams of searchers spent several hours in cold, windy and at times snowy conditions looking for a 61-year-old severe diabetic, missing for nearly two days. In the end, their search was fruitless, but other efforts continued later in the day.
Louis Alfred Turner was reported missing to Bend police on Thursday, having last been seen at his apartment around 1 p.m. in the 1200 block of Northeast Purcell Boulevard, said Bend police Det. Brian Beekman. He is a severe diabetic and requires regular medication.
"Turner is not associated with a vehicle and may be on foot," Beekman said in a news release, describing him as 6-foot and about 200 pounds, with a gray beard, gray hair and green eyes, possibly wearing a brown coat and tan work boots.
