3 year old beaten by mom's BF returned to mom
Washington Police Sergeant Jeff Stevens says they were notified of the case by the Department of Children and family services.
News 25 talked to DCFS spokesman Jimmie Whitelow who says they are conducting an investigation of an abuse allegation, but prior to this there was no prior contact with the family.
Johnston is in jail on $100,000 bail. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing April 24.
Police say the three-year-old is out of the hospital and is back home with his mother Amber Dickey.
First of all this bothers me because DCFS says they have no prior contact with the family when family members are saying otherwise and secondly that they gave the child back to the mother who will most likely let the BF come back or get a new one that is just as great as this last guy.

I hope Amber Dickey has had a big wakeup call and doesn't allow her child to be around this man (he is the father, iirc) or any other man with an anger problem.

OMG, I'm terrified that this little boy is going to end up dead! What the hell is going on here, what are the authorities thinking!? Why would they return this child to her? She left him with a monster who she obviously knew had anger problems, I hate this S**t!!

I can not take reading these anymore! Why don't these "mothers" take care of their kids or put them first?

A common "excuse" I know of is that the mother's are battered women and while they fear for their children, they feel they can't do anything or that they've been threatened by the guy.
As far as DCFS not having prior contact, just because a call comes in, doesn't mean it's investigated. So, they may have received a call and didn't feel it was something that needed to be investigated. There are bad DCFS (or whatever agency in different states) workers, and there are good ones. Some things that get blamed on workers are actually the decision of the court. I don't know the circumstances in this case, but just some general information for everyone.
