Teacher arrested in prank
A Brooklyn elementary school teacher was arrested Monday on child endangerment charges after suspending a 5-year-old student by his pants' belt loop on a hook inside a classroom closet.
Police arrested Jason Schoenberger, 24, at PS 279 on E. 104 Street in Canarsie in connection with a practical joke pulled on another instructor last Thursday at the school.
Schoenberger, a music teacher for the past two years, allegedly suspended the 5-year-old student on a coat hook in the closet of his classroom.
Schoenberger then told another teacher that he couldn't find the student and asked the teacher to look in the closet, police said.
The teacher was startled by the sight of the suspended student, who police and school officials said apparently was in on the gag.
The next day, the other teacher reported the prank - which one school official termed "totally inappropriate" - to the school's principal who contacted police.
As of Monday, the child's family had not filed charges, police said.
But based on what the teacher who was the recipient of the joke told them, police arrested Schoenberger Monday around 11 a.m.
Schoenberger was awaiting arraignment on charges of endangering the welfare of a child and reckless endangerment Monday night in Brooklyn Criminal Court.

"Schoenberger was awaiting arraignment on charges of endangering the welfare of a child and reckless endangerment Monday night in Brooklyn Criminal Court."
I wonder how that could be endangering the welfare of a child, if the child wanted to go along with the joke? I could see some other charges, but not that.Just the facts, Ma'am.
