Could this be him? or is this just a fake ad...not too sure whether to make anything of this...but when researching his name, i kept coming up with a girl's name who played a sport in piscataway....and i think the same girl went to Kean University as well...let me know what you all think. I live in Bridgewater and have never heard of this case...

When I click on the link it takes me to a page on reunion.com to buy a subscription so I can't access the info at the link provided.

It says on Doe he is also known as Joe Jeffco...

This one always strikes me as odd, as if the police just "lost" him. Do you think maybe he had some sort of accident or was assaulted by someone (another inmate or possibly even by the use of restraints or something) & died while in custody & they covered it up?

Bumping up. This case is still unsolved.

is this person on namus? I could not find under dziowgo.

I have read about this case and it does sound strange regarding the police. I did read somewhere that he was seen after the arrest.I will have to try to find that bit of info.

I wish there was more information about him available. He was a pretty big guy. And he simply vanished?

He obviously had served in the Marine Corps. I wonder if he was still on active duty or in the USMC Reserves when he went missing.

And what is the story with his nickname/alias of "Joe Jeffco"?

Here is one link to the story reflecting a possible sighting the day after his father went to see him in jail. This is strange in that it says his brother saw him. Also Charley project lists a possible sighting one week later.

Soriano said that in September 2010, New York State Police submitted skeletal remains of a "John Doe" found in August 1984 in Wawarsing, Ulster County, NY, to the New York City medical examiner in order to generate a DNA profile.

In May 2011, detectives were told by the university that the family DNA samples matched the remains from New York state, the prosecutor's office statement said.

Mmh. Interesting. In this link the story of how he went missing sounds completely different. Nothing about him being arrested and vanishing during a transfer.

On May 10, 1973 the Bridgewater Police Department received a report that Dziogwo, who was 25 years old at the time, was missing from his Drake Street residence in Bound Brook, where he lived with his wife and young daughter, Soriano said. Family members have continued the search for Dziowo through the years, including through Internet searches and social media postings, the statement said.

Interviews conducted in the tri-state area determined that Dziogwo was last seen in May 1973 staying with a man named "Bear" at a rental bungalow behind the former Alibi Bar on Route 28 in Branchburg, the statement said.

Investigators said Dzogwo's death has been rules a homicide, but that the cause and manner of the death are not being released to avoid jeopardizing the investigation.

How can the story change so much?

From July 2013:

http://www.nj.com/somerset/index.ss...ssing_for_40_years_sets_memorial_service.html

Joseph Dziowgo was born in the Bronx on March 2, 1948, and graduated from Somerville High School in 1967, Liz Dziowgo said. He served in the United States Marines from June 1967 to June 1971 as a paratrooper, serving in South Vietnam in 1969, and reaching the rank of lance corporal...

Capt. Jack Bennett of the Somerset Prosecutor's Office said Thursday that the investigation was still open. As of Feb. 2013 there is an open reward for $10,000 for information on this case.

It has been over 45 years since Joe's disappearance. Hopefully the case will be solved soon. Semper Fi, Marine.

How can the story change so much?
"The entry indicated that Dziowgo was arrested the day before he was reported missing, charged with assault and malicious damage to property following a domestic dispute. His father traveled to Bridgewater police headquarters to visit his son shortly thereafter, but was told he had been transferred to Somerset County Jail, according to the post. The Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office spokesman Jack Bennett said Dziowgo’s father mistakenly visited Somerville police headquarters and was unable to locate his son. Dziowgo was released the next day, after which he was tracked to Branchburg, Bennett added. But shortly thereafter, he was gone forever."

His family seems to believe LE's version, so I guess it's correct. His body was identified because the investigators talked his family about a DNA program, if LE were trying to cover this, I think he would have remained as a John Doe.
I would like to know more about Bear Jeffco. Was he a friend of Joe? Is he considered a person of interest? Is he still alive?
