AUSTIN - Texas officials told legislators today that they're investigating the possible sexual abuse of some young boys taken from a polygamist sect's ranch, as well as broken bones among other children

The CPS report also said authorities "tried to use bracelets to identify children, but the women and children removed the bracelets or rubbed the wording off them."
The report also said mothers at first refused to let the children undergo basic health screenings, and that "many" teen girls declined to take pregnancy tests.

I posted the following post in another thread, but it should be here:

Nancy Grace - 04-30-08:

Nancy Grace had Dr. McCarrey from John Hopkins Hospital, who says 41 children with evidence of broken bones is very high! He said national statistics say 4 cases of broken bones per thousand is normal. Edited to add that the FLDS response was that it was a case of brittle bones.

The local reporter in Texas stated that CPS observed the FLDS mothers who initially came with the children when they removed the children beginning on April 4th. Beginning at the compound, CPS put plastic bracelets on each child with their name and age.

The FLDS mothers were observed and they systematically tore the bracelets off; swapped the bracelets between children; and blacked out the names on the bracelets!
:furious:

In regards to the abuse of boys, the reporter in Texas says that when CPS went into the YFZ compound they went to the boys classroom (boys segregated from girls) and found journals. Those journals were among the items seized. The reporter said the information regarding abuse of the boys is coming from the journals and also from the boys who are being interviewed.

Ladybass, thank you for starting this thread. That boys were banished from the cult compound is already abuse. But, I cannot imagine those boys being banished when they have no inkling of how to survive in world they have never known.

It doesnt surprise me one bit that the boys would show signs of physical abuse in addition to everything else, and it wouldn't surprise me one bit if we learn down the line that a number of them were also sexually abused.

I believe that the FLDS leaders are likely made up of pedo perps with a pathological need to control, and that some of those boys suffered every abuse imaginable.

Remeber, Jeff's own nephew spoke out about being abused by him years ago, his brother killed himself because of the abuse. IMO Jeff's would have encouraged the sexual abuse of little boys. This was his playground where he was god and could do anything he wanted.

Eewwww...preparing them for whenever he got out of jail. :furious::furious: A new batch that didn't know any difference. :furious::furious::furious:

The incidence of broken bones may also be higher as apparently a number of the children have brittle-bone disease.

That may be. Jessop said that brittle bone disease wasn't something that was known among the FLDS. Right now I wouldn't put much stock in what the FLDS doc has to say. They're trained from birth to lie for their leaders and he is a flds member. Tests will tell who's telling the truth on this.

I agree. The FLDS has a known track record of lying to suit their purposes. I want to see testing by an independent doctor before I"ll believe there's a high incidence of brittle bone disease.

A Dr (who is a member) or a parent SAYING that there is "brittle bone disease" doesn't make it true. It's pretty easy to prove - I will wait to hear from an expert in OI before I believe that the excessive number of broken bones at YFZ is due to a LOT of kids with OI (usually diagnosed OI in one child in a group of one-thousand kids is a LOT).

If the kids DO have OI - is that due to inbreeding...like Fumarase Deficiency? Just how many of the 464 children supposedly have OI?

If the kids DO have OI, is a trampoline as the ONLY play equipment a good idea? Are the parents preventing potential "fracture prone" behavior or activities? Is there special care for OI kids in the FLDS? Is there a specialist involved?

Are there medical records for OI in these kids? Who diagnosed? Or do the parents just pull out the OI thing when someone outside the FLDS asks why their child has his/her 3rd broken bone in 3 years?

None of the parents SAID THE KIDS HAVE OI - they said the kids "have brittle bones". Real OI is a serious condition - and there is actually no such thing as a disease called "brittle bones".

Sorry, I am not buying the "kids break easy" reasoning yet...I want to hear from an expert in OI who has examined the kids the parents allege have "brittle bones". I have a feeling that either the kids have some major genetic issues due to the fact that 60-80%of the couples are cousins (or closer) or the "brittle bones" thing is something that has worked for them before when too many kids got injured.

My Opinion

From what I read, it sounds like that most common type of OI, type I, is mainly, in the normal population, due to a spontaneous mutation. These folks can reproduce. The other 3 types sound like the victims would die in childhood or be quite incapacitated by adulthood. So it could be a recent development, say 2 generations ago, and become very prevalent very quickly among the FLDS.
Also, it looks like the genes are well-studied.
There's another bone disease, Paget's, that has a strong genetic component. I don't know when the symptoms start showing up. It's quite rare. Bones are very thick but fragile.

Who gets Paget's disease?

Paget's disease is rarely diagnosed in people under 40 years of age. Men and women are approximately equally affected. The prevalence of Paget's disease ranges from 1.5%-8% depending on age and country of residence. The prevalence of familial Paget's disease (where more than one family member has the disease) ranges from 10%-40% in different parts of the world.

Thanks for the information. Both the people I've known with it were older, but with one, I never knew when the onset was. Somehow I'd been led to believe that it was much rarer than your figures say.
Doesn't seem like there are many FLDS in the age group, eh?

State authorities are investigating whether younger boys taken from a polygamist ranch in West Texas were sexually abused by older boys, not adults, a state official clarified Thursday.

Documents taken from the Yearning for Zion Ranch near Eldorado indicate that younger boys were molested by older boys at the ranch, said the official, who asked not to be identified. No other details about the alleged abuse were available.

It's AN ENVIRONMENT OF ABUSE. Why wouldn't the younger boys be abused by the older, more powerful boys who are denied any sort of contact or relationship with a girl. They aren't supposed to even LOOK at a girl - and for most of them, they won't get their 1st wife until they are well into the late 20's. And before THAT, not so much as a single date or holding a girls hand.

And hey - the boys don't get the "being sweet" lecture, they aren't sweet, they are the "priesthood" and they see abuse daily - it's all they know.

It's a TOXIC WORLD from top to bottom, for everyone in it....even the men and boys don't escape unscathed.

That and many of them may have had contact with Jeffs and others of his ilk who abuse boys and in turn they abuse the younger.

The dirty secret of childhood abuse...victims often find themselves in the horrifying position of doing unto others what was done to THEM. In this case the boys may have 1st been abused by the PROPHET and/or one of the "Apostles" or "Bishops"... the men they are COMMANDED BY GOD to emulate. OF COURSE they are going to assume that abuse of those "lower" in the organization is not only acceptable, but even REQUIRED. They will someday have a WIFE and CHILDREN to "train" and they have to "practice that training on someone...right?
