Sect's doctor mum about ranch clinic

He's licensed to practice medicine in Utah, in Arizona and - since June 2005 - in Texas.
He has no disciplinary actions against him in the states in which he's licensed to practice.
He operates a medical clinic at the YFZ Ranch of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Days Saints.

Since he's a cult member, I wonder how many 'wives' Dr. Lloyd has????

Also in the article that I found interesting.

Two births from a ranch mother or mothers are registered in Schleicher County, according to the Schleicher County Clerk's Office. The Tom Green County Clerk's Office declined to comment on whether its rolls reflect births from sect mothers.

By late last week, the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services had not requested the Department of State Health Services check for birth certificates for children removed from the ranch, said Doug McBride, a health services department spokesman.

Barlow, a sect member, declined to go into detail about medical facilities on the ranch or respond directly to other questions without a lawyer present, such as whether he witnessed child abuse.

Likewise, Barlow said, public records would show whether births have taken place at the ranch. He also did not want to elaborate about that issue without a lawyer present.

I fully understand he'd not want to answer questions and why he'd want a lawyer present, that is his right. However, he is an FLDS member and likely in favor with the leaders, and it's to his advantage to have a lawyer's advice and presence. After all he wouldn't want to say too much that will either get him charged or excommunicated.

If he's been delivering underage girl's babies; signing papers to send women off to the mental institution with or without examining them or referring them to a psychiatric doctor; fixing broken bones that were a result of abuse; and being derelict in his duty to report all of these things, then he needs to be stripped of his license and charged. Seriously, this guy has grown up there, likely been groomed to take his place in the hierarchy, and has probably been the only doctor many of them have seen in years. How can he not see the domestic violence or abuse that goes on unless its to the leadership's advantage that he doesn't see or report it.

The rest of that...
"All the ranch children weren't born in Texas, and officials felt there would be no official birth records
for those who were born in the state, McBride said. "Early indications are that there were no birth records"

So that means that for the last what, four years? since the compound was created there have been births
at the ranch but no one has recorded them.

Don't forget, Barlow was one of the few males that was allowed to finish high school, the FLDS most likely paid his way through college and med school. So he probably believes he owes them. And once he failed to report or lied on a report, they had him. Because if he reported, he would get in trouble too.

I also wonder how many wives he has. You would think that a doctor who didn't tell would be fairly high in the hierarchy and have several wives.

Good point about them paying his way and being one of the few to get higher education. They had him before he ever failed to report. It's a good bet he has several.

"Lloyd Barlow, the ranch's onsite physician, said he was caring for a number of FLDS children with broken or
fractured bones at the time they were removed from the ranch. He said he has referred a number of families
to emergency rooms in nearby San Angelo and to orthopedic specialists. "Probably over 90 percent of the
injuries are forearm fractures from ground-level or low level falls," Barlow told The Associated Press from his
office at the Eldorado ranch. "I can also tell you that we don't live in a community where there is a pattern
of abuse."

"Barlow said he is an FLDS member but also a licensed physician in Texas and Utah and is required by law to
report suspected abuse. "What they are saying is that in the history of the lives of 400 some-odd children,
there have been injuries. They are not saying they have 41 fractures," he said."

"Another FLDS member, Willie Jessop, said a 7-year-old girl broke her arm while staying in protective services
custody at the San Angelo Coliseum in the days after the raid. "We don't know how it happened. She was taken
to the hospital and last we knew it was still in a splint waiting to be set," he told the AP from the ranch."

Poor little 7 year old, probably the first time she had been allowed to run and she falls down and breaks an arm.
Or maybe it wasn't that she didn't know how to run.... maybe she is one of the ones with "brittle bone disease."

That's it, he's there to shield the men of the FLDS, not treat the women and children, much like former police chief Roundy, also a member, who was only there to enforce the law of the FLDS men on women and children, not protect the laws of the United States.

Lock him up! :furious:

I would imagine the flds saw to it they had members in every type of professional work so they had their best interests covered. Dr's, lawyers, accountants. How old is Barlow? If they are thinking ahead, they just might have someone in medical school now to take his place when needed in the future. Since he has practices in 3 different places, he probably has wives in each place I'm thinking.

"Until the test is available, Tarby says, the best prevention measure remains refraining from crossing Barlows, Jessops and their relations -- who make up half the population of the polygamist enclave. It's unlikely the polygamous community will heed the doctor's advice.

Even the few highly educated people there, including a medical doctor who practices at the Hildale Health Center, refuse to accept advice from any outsider, including doctors such as Tarby, who has treated their children for years.

"They don't believe anything written about Colorado City [by outsiders, even medical experts] carries much truth," Tarby says.

Dr. Barlow states "there's no abuse."

Brent says he knows of children whose bones were intentionally broken by their fathers as a form of discipline. "I know it exists. It's sad to see and hear all these stories of these kids getting their arms broken. I can't imagine what they're doing to these kids," he said. "These little boys, just like me, it's happening to them right within their own families. They're getting ruined. I mean, it's ruining these kids."

Jeffs receives jail visits from personal doctor, family

"Since April been visited most frequently by a man described as his personal physician, records from a southern Utah jail show. Dr. Lloyd Hammon Barlow first saw Warren Jeffs, head of the Fundamentalist LDS church, in the Washington County jail on Feb. 12, about two weeks after he was rushed to a St. George hospital for undisclosed treatment. Barlow's visit also came three days after the transcript of a motion for "privileged physician contact" was filed under seal in 5th District Court in St. George.

"Barlow is a Utah-licensed family practicition and surgeon with a degree from the University of Utah, records show. He also has medical licenses in Arizona and Texas.... " "Until about two years ago, Barlow's practice was based out of the Hilldale Health Service Center, a private clinic used exclusively by members of the Hilldale, Utah -based church, former members say.

"Dr. Lloyd got called to Texas to be Warren's personal physician..." "He moved his family and everything. We heard he was the last person who's been to see Warren."

Between April 2 and April 27, Barlow saw Jeffs nine times. It is unclear, however, if he is providing medical care.

That works out to Dr. Barlow seeing Jeffs, on average, every three days.
