KY - Scotty Baker, 10, abducted & murdered, Manchester, 25 Nov 1992

this is so wrong i have a hard time finding the correct words.

Ridiculous! She should die in prison!!

Sometimes I wonder what "sentencing" means. Why do things like your actions in prison affect your sentencing? 15 years is 15 years. It seems like criminals know the law and the system better than anybody and can manipulate it. I'm not saying this is what she did, but she helped a woman ruthlessly murder a child out of jealousy. This kid never even saw 15 years of life; it is so much to ask that she serve her sentence?

Wow. It sounds like the other woman (who is serving life in prison but who knows what that really means) might have actually killed the child. Both woman set his body on fire to hide the evidence. I can't figure out if the woman who was just released helped to kill him. She was convicted of reckless homicide and got 25 years and not life.

I am going to go research this case. I am surprised she is being let out a decade early. Other than good behavior for time served, I wonder what the other reasons are. What a terrible crime - murdered by not one but two Moms.

ETA - just reread. I thought it was his Mom and his setpmom. It was his stepMom and her friend.

Of course she behaved in prison. There were no children to kill.

This disgusts me!

OMG, I don't understand why they would release this woman, she should spend the rest of her days in prison! :furious:

There is no such thing as good behavior when a child is murdered and burned .:furious:

Stephanie Baker, who was also convicted, strangled the boy in the backseat of a car.
Police say the two women then set the body on fire, to try to disguise the crime. His body was found in Laurel County

There is a real problem with our justice system. We let people who are convicted child molesters, rapists and killers out on 'good behaviour' to make room for other offenders and many times those offenders are convicted of much lesser crimes. There is no reason someone who is convicted on possesion of marjuana should do (well, anytime in my opinion) more time than a rapist but yet I hear about it all the time.
There needs to be a serious revamping of the prison system. IMO I think first and second time drug offenders should be sent into court-mandated rehabs focused on curing the person of their addiction and/or educating them on how to get a job, live successfully in society, rising above the economic and class situations they were born into, focus on education and this should be done totally outside the prison system. The prison system should be only for violent offenders - which of course would involve a serious debate on what constitutes a 'violent' offender. No getting out on good behaviour aka overcrowding. Time sentenced, time served, period. We could do that if the prisons were not so overcrowded with drug addicts who need rehab, not prison, traffic violators, etc. We could also incorporate intense rehabilitation facilities in the prisons for violent offenders including therapy, psychological evaluations, classes on how to function in society, how to get a job on the outside, teaching them how to write a resume, coverletter, interview, have work-release programs where they contribute back to the community in some way while learning valuable skills and most importantly classes on how your offense effected the victims lives physically and emotionally.
Obviously this wouldn't work for some people but it could for others. If the system could reach just some people that would make a difference in re-committing rates and that would make a huge difference in a potential victims life. And obviously, if you are in for life then it is a whole other story. I'm just talking about those who are scheduled for release, even if that is 20 years down the road - they especially need it because 20 years of living out of society is going to make it especially hard to re-adust.

A lot of offenders re-offend because they simply do not know how to function in society. They don't know how to hold down a job, interact with their co-workers, etc so they resort to burglary again and go back where they recieve three meals a day, TV, minimal work, essentially completely taken care of.
When you look at the prison systems of certain European countries, Norway for instance, has a very very different system, where inmates live in communal houses on an island, they are responsible for getting themselves up everyday, making their own meals, going to work. There are farms on the island where different crops are maintained and food sources grown. It is the inmates jobs to harvest these crops, they sent to the mainland to markets to sell. When re-leased, they are sent to a half-way house where they live for a few months while adjusting to life, finding a job, etc. The re-offender rate in Norway is less than 10%. The inmates, many of them convicted of violent crimes, are released and because they were taught whilst in prision to be responsible they are able to maintain a life on the outside. The re-offender rate in the US is upwards of 85%.

I could go on about this but I won't. Sorry for the length. Go ahead, slay me alive. I know a lot of people will think my 'liberal, socialist' views are nuts but don't worry about it; it will never happen :)

I seen this case on FBI files or something like that. She totally lied to the police and almost got away with it. She killed him because she was jealous of him. She should never get out.

itm,
Amen to that.
Can you imagine being jealous of a child? Sure wish I'd seen the FBI files show.

Great post Gaiai! I agree with you.

Except, I think there is such a thing as people "beyond repair" who should never be out in society.

Child murderers and child molesters IMO qualify as beyond repair.

You've got a fan in me. I think many of your points are spot on. Our prison system is a dismal failure for everyone.

OMG this is just sickening! When they let these monsters out do they ever think of *What* they did to get in there? Good behavior!! What about her behavior she did to that poor boy?

There is a lady who escaped from jail in Detroit for drugs and she was getting 10-20 but some monster that does this get 15? There is a list a mile long of how many baby killers get out with hardly no time! It is just sick!

What pure hell that poor boy was thinking before e was viscously murdered!

Why do the LE spend so much time/$ trying to solve cases and going for long term punishments when they could just plea it out and give them the slap on the wrist. It would save us ( tax payers) alot of $. This makes me ill. That child would be what 26 now? He would have still had a long life ahead of him, now she does. good behavior my *advertiser censored**!

This is an absolute disgrace. That woman should have gotten a life sentence with out parole! This is outragous!:furious:

Oh so she'll just go about her business. Live her life. No problems. I've mentioned before that's why only one member of my family went to the trial for the 's that murdered our loved one. Indeed two were out within 10 years and the actual shooter was out within a few years after that. Yep, and then your children get to sit in school with their children. Your family gets to see them laughing and joking around. It's all a crock. This poor, poor mother of this little boy. How one doesn't go off and snap is beyond me. Pretty much this tells me I can go murder someone and I'll be walking the streets again at some point. Edit to say of course I wouldn't because I'm a civilized human being with morals and a heart, but you can't imagine what this does to people and generations after that. This makes me literally sick.

I saw this case on one of the detective shows also, not sure which one. Whatever became of the baby she was pregnant with and somebody please tell me her husband divorced while she was locked up.

She should have got life for this crime. Jealous of your stepchild??? Please. She deserved to rot in prison.

Ok, I've reread the article I was confusing the two women. The stepmother is still in prison for life--which usually means 33 yrs. They both should have received life sentences.
