A devoted father was killed when he tried to cling to the outside of a train to retrieve a present for his son and flowers for his wife he had left in the carriage.

David Davies left the gifts on his seat when he rushed off the train after falling asleep and missing his stop.

Realising he had left his wife's flowers and expensive toy car for his three-year-old son onboard he panicked, and made a snap decision to try to get back on the train.

The 38-year-old City worker ran back to try to stop it from leaving by banging on the windows but the driver did not see him.

In a moment of madness, he then tried to jump from the platform onto a ledge in-between two adjoining carriages as the train pulled away.

But Mr Davies slipped, fell under the train and was killed instantly.
